Cory Pass/ Edith Pass Loop ( Moderate to Strenous )

This is a non-tourist hike in Banff National Park, with great views (picture 3). The first couple of kilometers is a very steep climb. It is a long strenuous hike, but hikers of intermediate ability and experience should be able to do this. We will be going at a moderate pace (Karen and Candice style). This hike encircles Mt. Edith and crosses two high passes. On the backside (picture 1) you pass into the Valley of the Gargoyles and the views of Mount Louis (picture 2) are amazing. There is one small scramble step involved and a long steep slope of loose scree down the backside of Edith Pass (picture 1).

Park Passes are required for this hike.

This is a long strenuous hike with steep ascents and descents.

It was easier than I expected. Enjoyed both passes and the views a lot! Thank you Karen!

I loved this hike. The weather was perfect. The views are great. The level of difficulty was just right for me: a good workout but not very technically challenging. The Mosquitos were bad but the chemicals (Muskoil) worked the great majority of the time.

    • Alison S.

Thanks for the Muskoil! Still have about 20 bites but better then 100!!!!

What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare? - No time to stand beneath the boughs, And stare as long as sheep and cows: No time to see, when woods we pass, Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass: No time to see, in broad daylight, Streams full of stars, like skies at night: No time to turn at Beauty's glance, And watch her feet, how they can dance: No time to wait till her mouth can Enrich that smile her eyes began? A poor life this if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. --W. H. Davies

Folks, I have changed the Meet Up Location - Petrocan gas station on TransCanada Hwy at the Hwy 22 interchange (I live out there). Gather yourselves at Shouldice (or other pre-arranged pick up spots - email the other hikers) for carpooling if needed, then meet me in front of the gas station for orientation and waiver signing.

    July 17, 2013

    • Alison S.

Do you want us to be at Petro Can at 8:30?

      July 17, 2013

    • Karen L

yes - long day best to start early (says the one who is always late!)

Would it be possible to get a ride with someone to the new meet-up location? I live right downtown, but I can meet you at a LRT station, Shouldice, or anywhere else accessible by public transportation. Thanks!

More new information - The Fireside parking lot was destroyed by the flood - we will have to park alongside the road a little farther up and walk to the trailhead.

Looks like it will be a hot day, bring lots of food and water everyone :)
