Eiffel Lake dayhike - Banff NP
Friday, July 12, 2013
To Attend: review event details and answer the questions in RSVP
The trail to Eiffel Lake splits off from the Larch Valley trail and takes you to a pretty alpine lake with a panoramic view of the Valley of the Ten Peaks.
Distance: approx 11 km return.
Pace: Moderate. This hike is suitable for strong beginners.
Elevation gain: 370 m.
Hazards: bears, snow, tourists, trail may be muddy in places. We will stick together as this is bear country. If you insist on going off on your own you will be left for bear bait.
Time on trail est: 4+ hours hiking plus driving time to trailhead. Please note duration is approximate. If you have somewhere to be at the end of the day please do not sign up. We will be stopping for a coffee break etc at the Samson Mall before driving to Moraine Lake.
Who can attend: Adult members only please - sorry no guests. Because this hike is in the national park the group size is being limited to 10. There is no waitlist. If you want to come and no spots are available its up to you to keep checking the website for availability.
Dogs: Yes. Dogs MUST remain on leash in the National Park and be well behaved. That means no jumping up on people, is not yappy, walks well on a leash, and gets along with other dogs. This is a dog friendly hike so if you are allergic to or afraid of dogs this is probably not a good hike for you.
Carpool: We will meet at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 22 above the Petro Can station. When heading west from Calgary turn right to the Cochrane turn off and take the first left (it comes up quick!) on to a gravel road. Watch for a small shed on the left - that's where to turn. I will be driving a dark red that almost looks black Subaru Forester. We will be leaving from there at exactly 8 am.
If you need a ride from Calgary to the meetup location please try and make arrangements with other people on the attending list.
Suggested gas fees are $25 cash + mandatory park entrance fee. Unless you have a park pass the fees are: Adult $9.80 or car load $19.60 ($5/person based on a full car).
Trailhead: Drive west from Banff on the Trans-Canada Hwy to Lake Louise. From the Lake Louise Village located just off the Trans Canada Hwy follow Lake Louise drive uphill until you see the access road for Moraine Lake on the left. Follow the winding road for 11km to the parking area at the end.
