The pass offers great veiws north down Wileman valley and across to Holy Cross Mountain. The sunny south-facing aspect of this trail means that it is usually dry when many other trails in the area are still snowbound. The distance for this trail is 6.4 km. elevation gain is 425M..2-3 hours return plus 1hr each way driving time.We will drive to Sentinel Rec. area on hi-way #40 west of Longveiw. Once we reach the top of the pass we can do a short walk over to the celebrated Boundary Pine which is on the cover of R.M. Patterson,s book.He was a long time rancher and adventurer in the area over 60 years ago.I have done this hike 3 times already the most recent last May.Things you should bring are your backpack with lunch ,snacks ,water, proper hiking boots, rain coat or poncho ,warm jacket, bear spray if you have it.Please bring a pair of runners to change into after the hike and a plactic bag to put wet or muddy boots in.This will be a moderate pace hike.If you are in a big hurry and think there is a prize for the fastest and first person to the top, this hike is not for you If you have any questions about gear or any other concern email me or contact me directly via text or phone.([masked])If you are a passenger please bring some cash to pay your driver.
We will meet on the EAST LOT of Somerset/Bridlewood station directly across from Wendys/Tim Hortons. From there we will form a car pool depending on how many people show up.The trailhead parking lot may be trashed by the June flood so we may have to park in the ditch or grass. This would be a good beginner hike but remember its the Rockies not a walk in the park.Anyone from North Calgary who would perfer to drive via Bragg creek,we will meet you at the tourist booth in Longveiw at about 9;45-10a.m.After the hike we will meet at the Navaho Mug in Longveiw for a java/tea.Dogs welcome,no small children unless your dog is your only child.
