$2 Skiing @ Norquay!

There are 6 Questions as the end.  Please answer them all even if it's a N/A (Not Applicable), or risk being removed.  (If you put N/A for all, I will remove you.)

It's Toonie Time at Norquay! Yup it's true! The day has been changed and now it's on Wednesdays. This is open to all levels.  They will have lesson deals too on this day.  This deal is for AB Residents. They usually require something (a driver's license, or AB Health or Student ID) to prove residency.

You will also need to equip yourself. they have rentals at the hill, or you can get stuff likely cheaper, in town, but we will not be stopping for this, you need to sort it out on your own.

Note: The Car Pool Location

It's close to the 69th St. LRT has bus access and free Parking on the street.

Yes we do meet quite early at the carpool as to get to the Hill in good time for a close parking spot, or else we could be half way down the mountain... and have to walk up. ): That's really not fun.

Car Pool Costs: Zone 3; $20@

We'll start pretty much with the lifts opening up and do a few warmup runs then break into groups according to ability and speed, then meet back up for about an hours lunch at 11:30 and we can re-group and hit the slopes again.  I don't plan to stop till 4:00 when the lifts cease.

Wear/bring weather appropriate clothes and something bright and boldly unique thus making you more distinct, so if we get separated you are easier to spot.  Plus wacky stuff makes it more festive and fun. :D

Sometimes I like to see how cheap we can make each run. One time I got 21 runs in on one of the days.

It might be busy so I recommend packing your lunch, but at this price you could splurge. If they have Burgers on the deck they were great, and their Lasagne was huge and quite tasty.  They did have microwaves and a Hot Water tap.

Following the skiing, if there is interest and rides can be sorted out, we may be stopping in Banff for a soak in the Hot Springs (so bring your suits 'n stuff, or you can rent suits and towels) followed by Dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory, or perhaps somewhere else. (I'm thinking the Grizzly Hut for April as my birthday is in that month.)

Note:  (In order for there to peace in my home, I may have to bring my Daughter for at least one of these Ski Days.)

Thanks also to our willing drivers. Your driving makes it possible and is much appreciated. It's so nice to get driven and with a group of (new/old) friends it's fantastic.

Good Morning Cynthia. Is the plan to still meet around the fireplace in the lodge?

    January 8, 2014

    • Cynthia R.

Hi Barb, Mike got your text but I guess we had already left the fireplace area after gearing up for the slopes. He tried texting you but I guess the Hill's reception wasn't the greatest. We couldn't get a table downstairs for Lunch so we moved upstairs.

What a fantastic group of people and an absolutely wonderful day of fun and delights! Thank you everyone I really enjoyed meeting and playing on the skiing event with you. The Hot Springs after was such a blessing and so comforting. The food and such at The Old Spaghetti Factory was really good. The company was friendly and I am looking forward to next months event with eager happy anticipation.

I'd be down for joining too if I can get a pick up with room for my gear (skis and boots). I live in Hillhurst. 16 street nw close to 6 ave. This would be my first outing with this group! Can I join even though the RSVP is closed?

    January 7, 2014

Also I live in NW Calgary (Varsity) and could pick up any one needing a ride.
FYI - I am posting this after the closing date, so I am not sure yet whether I can join the event.

I live in the NW (24ave just east of 19th) if I could get a ride that would be fantastic.

My group just cancelled. Can I join this outing? I drive a Sante Fe, with studded snowtires, I have a ski rack and a park pass for the car.

Hi all, I'll get getting the bus and then the LRT from SE to 69th. Not sure how far this church is from the station but I can try to walk or bus there. I'll aim to get there before 7am, but not sure how available buses are since i'm not familiar with the area. Will we figure out carpooling there?

    January 5, 2014

    • Mike R.

Malu, I can give you a ride to the carpool if you want. I won't be returning to calgary after skiing, so I can't drive you to/from the hill.... But this might be easier than trying to ride transit during the morning rush with your board. Just let me know.

Thank you Mike! Please connect with each other through the profile email function to exchange your personal details. :)

Hi all, I'm coming from the SE (inglewood/Ramsay). I have my own equipment but i do NOT have a car, so would appreciate the carpooling. I can get to downtown, Shouldice or a LRT easy if its + convenient. I'm happy to share gas and I can bring a park pass to cut down on cost. I'm not fussed about what we do after skiing - as I'll be catching the ride I'm happy to do whatever the driver wants, be it dinner or hot springs, both or none.

How is the snow condition at Norquay?

    January 3, 2014

    • Cynthia R.

If you want to check it now, click on the above link to Mt. Norquay's website, and go to the conditions or webcam spots. The conditions change with the weather, daily but usually they are good by this time and just continue to improve as the base builds naturally and they have time to make more snow. :) Although some of it does get skied off and the wind (+ chinooks) take some of it away.

I would prefer if just the people needing rides to the car pool were the ones to post. The drivers should contact that person directly, just click on their profile and in the toppish left there is a email function.

The reason for this is that if all the rides are arranged before the car pool all chaos breaks out when drivers cancel, or passengers bail. This is the purpose of the carpool. To get the needs of the many sorted with the actual event day people and resources.

Also, if say three drivers decide to meetup before hand and go together, we wouldn't have enough seats.

Plus in this instance not all drivers are staying, so what do we do with those who wanted to stay in Banff and their ride is gone?

I've been doing these group events for a long time now, (since '07) and this truly is the most effective way.

This is why we post the questions and set a Car pool site.

Thank you for your understanding. :D

  • Carol

I live in the NW. It'd be great if I can carpool with someone.

    January 2, 2014

  • Cynthia R.

In general at my events we will meet up at the carpool spot & then figure out who is going with who, based on who actually shows up. However sometimes it's a bit more complicated, as it is with this event. Some of us want to go for the swim & dinner afterwards, some don't want part of it, or some don't want it all. I'll have to do a spread sheet up, & also include who has room for how many people &/or gear as well...
