Commonwealth Ridge North Peak Winter Scramble

Commonwealth Ridge North Peak Winter Scramble. This trip will entail going through deep powdery snow and steep forested terrain to gain access to the ridge. Once on it, we will ditch our snowshoes for helmet and Ice axe and proceed to the North Peak. How far we get will depend on safety and weather conditions.

Date(s) & Time: Saturday 11 January at 0630 AM 

Event Duration: 6-8 hours on trail + 4 hrs driving 

Difficulty Rating: Very Strenuous Day trip

This will be an exploratory first hike for your Event Host

Distance: 9-10 km

Elevation Gain: 700 - 800m

Location: Approximately 40 km South of Canmore along Smith-Dorrien Road near Mt Engadine Lodge.

Required Gear: Avalanche safety/rescue gear, Snowshoes, Crampons/micro spikes, Helmet, Ice Axe, hiking boots good for winter conditions, mitts/gloves, toque, gaiters, hiking poles, sunglasses layered clothing, wind proof jacket, headlamp with extra batteries, food and water.

Event Directions: From the Meet up location we will drive West along highway 1. Turn South on Highway 40 to Peter Lougheed Prov Park and follow Smith-Dorrien to start point, which is 2 km South of Mt Engadine Lodge.

Gas Money: $20.00 per person.

Your Hosts are volunteers and not trained guides. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road conditions, current weather conditions, your current physical condition, current trail conditions and current avalanche conditions for the trip and you are responsible for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group.
