Please read this page in its entirety before you RSVP.

Burstall is a nice place to be in summer or winter. Snow make it more challenging.

Starting from the Burstall day area (the South side of Chester lake Parking).

This route is ...... well there is NO route. We'll take the trail from time to time but it is planned as an Off Trail snowshoe trip for the whole day!

Be prepared to "loop around"

Be prepared to have fun.

Between 10 to 12kms and about 500m elevation gain.

Don't make plan, as I have no idea at what time we'll be back to Calgary!

We'll limit the number of participants between 6 and 10!

This is a strenuous trip as we should break trail depending on snow condition but expect a good work out.

NO BEGINNERS, must be fit and understand the meaning of "crazy snowshoeing"!

The plan is to stay together as a group and do what the group decide!

Gas fees are $20 per passenger for this trip.

Please, allow yourself to be 10 min early at Shouldice!

Gear recommendation:

Snowshoes.

Hiking/trekking/ski poles if you need.

Warm waterproof boots.

Appropriate winter clothing piled on in layers so you can de-layer as required should be quick/easy drying breathable clothing(Try to avoid cotton especially jeans).

Water/snow proof pants.

Gaiters

Food and water for a long day (something hot like soup, tea, hot chocolate...granola bars). Please, plan for snacks too!

You must answer all the questions asked by your organizers.

Waivers: As per the new policy for waivers, I will bring the group waiver form with me to both the Calgary Meetup location and the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this hike. You will also be asked to provide the name and phone number of an emergency contact.

You are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and by your R.S.V.P you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group. Organizer has the right to remove any member who he/she feel is not fit for this hike.

Hi, Ive never been snowshoing before but i have hiked in winter. I can keep up with most group if not almost always ahead. I know the description said no beginner, but if i bring a gps and leave if i truly cant keep up, could i attend? If so, i will rent a pair of snowshoe to try out before the trip and if i find it too difficult walking with showshoe then i will RSVP no.

I understand your concern. You got a good point about the GPS. I've been to a couple hikes with the 20something and just finished a prairie mountain hike with slow and steady. I also did Ha Ling Peak a couple days ago. I believe Im in good physical shape. Hard to scale when I don't really know who to compare with. Ill do my best to keep up.
