Easy Hike up Grotto Canyon near Exshaw

Approx 2 km to the falls for a total of 4 km

Plan on making it as far as the pictographs. The approach to the canyon is hot and dusty but the canyon itself is cool and rocky with a nice stream to cool your toes in.

I will be bringing my dog, but still have room for a couple of passengers.

List of what to bring:

Hiking boots/ shoes, sunhat
 Backpack, with warm clothing
Hiking poles (optional)
 sunscreen and bug Spray
Extra Snacks and/or Packed Lunch
 at least 1 l Water
Camera (optional)

Hi, is anyone driving from NE?

    July 7

    • Nora

Hi Sylvia, any chance you can make your way to one of the C-train stations, so far we have me picking up at Dalhousie station and Sophie picking up at Chinook station. Or - Any one else joining us that is near Saddletowne that can help Silvia out? thanks!

      July 10

    • Silvia

Hi Nora. The earliest I could get to Dalhousie would be 8am. I'm not driving and from Saddletowne to Dalhousie takes me an hour by train. Thank you for trying though, I appreciate that.

  • Danielle P.

  • Joy L.

Is grotto canyon in Canmore area? The map of this event shows in somewhere east of calgary, is it wrong?

    July 7

    • Nora

Hi Joy, I hope I have fixed the map now. Grotto Canyon is just west of Exshaw but east of Canmore, not east of Calgary. Did you decide who you are riding with? I have room for you, as I am taking only 2 others.

      July 10

    • Joy L.

Thank you Nora, i will go with you if you have room for me, so should I meet you at Dalhousie ctrain station at 7:30am? Can I get your cell phone # just in case I have trouble to find you?

  • Joy L.

Do we need to carry bear spray ?

    July 5

    • Nora

Hi Joy, no guarantees we won't see a bear, but it is a very busy trail, so a bear encounter is unlikely. I will not be bringing bear spray.
