Hollywood and Hitler 1933 – 1939 – Author Presentation

  • Mar 25, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The event starts at 6:00. I will be in the lobby area shortly after 5:30.

Brandeis University Professor of Film Studies Thomas Doherty presents a talk with film clips based on his highly acclaimed book. Recapturing what ordinary Americans saw on the screen during the emerging Nazi threat, Doherty reveals the influence of the disproportionately Jewish backgrounds of the studio executives. A proxy battle waged in Hollywood over how to conduct business with the Nazis, how to cover Hitler and his victims in the newsreels, and whether to address or ignore Nazism in Hollywood feature films. Would Hollywood lie low or sound the alarm?

Great talk, very informative... wish I had written down all the films he referenced.

I heard about this on the radio, and I'm afraid it might fill up. Is there a way to preorder tickets?

Great idea! The Nick may sell tickets in advance but you can also try the following: Online/By phone: MJFF tickets are available for purchase through Brown Paper Tickets atm or 24/7 Ticket Hotline:[masked]-3006. Brown Paper tickets charges a service fee of $0.99 per ticket plus 3.5% of the face value.
