Overview: We'll meet at The Underground Theatre, located at [masked] N. Wilton Place, to see Ira Levin's terrifying play "Veronica's room." The play starts at 8pm but I recommend you arrive by at least 7:45pm as small theaters generally have open seating and doors could well be open by then (if not earlier). After the play, the STELA group will gather outside the theater, and then go the short (~0.2 miles) distance to Denny's, located at 5751 Sunset Boulevard, for some post-play discussion.
PLEASE don't RSVP 'Yes' unless you intend to purchase a ticket immediately; also, please make sure there are still spots left before you purchase your ticket.
For those on the waiting list: everyone on the 'attending' list has confirmed they have a ticket and are definitely coming :( I'm sorry for the disappointment, but hopefully we'll see you at a future event!
PLEASE NOTE: I'll be at the theater by 7:30, so please look for me (in my black and white striped scarf!) and say hi before the play begins :-)
The play: "Veronica's Room" starts at 8pm but I recommend you arrive by at least 7:45pm (see above for why). Ira Levin is best known for writing The Boys from Brazil, Stepford Wives, and Rosemary's Baby. But Levin also turned his imagination to the stage and Veronica's Room, a terrifying play at the Underground Theatre, is among the darkest of all his efforts. Invited to a crumbling mansion by its charming Irish caretakers, Susan, a young co-ed, is met with an usual request. Since she strongly resembles "Veronica," the long-dead relative of the mansion's current owner, could she possibly visit Veronica's room and try on some of her clothes? The caretakers convince Susan that the sight of "Veronica" alive again might soothe their employer, an elderly woman afflicted with dementia. But a compassionate-sounding request masks a fiendish plot with hellish consequences Susan might never escape. Goldstar members gave this production great reviews.
After the show: The Small Theater Enthusiasts will gather outside the theatre before going the short (~0.2miles) distance to the Denny's located at 5751 Sunset Boulevard, where we'll get to know each other as we discuss the play.
Tickets: Full price tickets cost $20 + $1.69 fees via Brown Paper Tickets (please select the correct date before purchasing!) LA Stage Alliance tickets appear to have run out. Goldstar tickets had run out when I last checked, but they sometimes add more.
Parking: Street. Please leave enough time for parking, and as always, please check all posted signs before leaving your car!
