Just south of Winnipeg in St. Norbert is a cool slice of history...The Trappist Monastery, established in 1892 and used for 86 years by the monks of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance...and across the highway, St. Norbert Provincial Heritage Park, where you can immerse yourself in Métis family life as it was during the late 1800s. This will be a quick jaunt to get out somewhere close to Winnipeg (and I have a wedding to get to the night before...ha!) NOTE...this falls on the Sunday of the Canada Day Long Weekend...so far I see no events happening on that day at either location, but if anything changes I will post.
Here's the plan:
-12:30p - Meet at the Tim Hortons at 2147 St. Mary's Road to collect $2 meetup fees and organize carpooling for those who need it
-1:00p - Leave for the Monastery first (maps will be given for those who need them)
-2:15p - Go across the highway to St. Norbert Provincial Heritage Park
-3:15p - Head back to Tim Hortons, then disperse!
