Go Snowshoeing

  • Dec 7, 2013 · 7:00 AM

Im a new snowshoer and am ready to get out and hit the trail. Plus, this group needs more events on the calendar. Maybe a more experienced snowshoer could help to plan this event?

I'm just finding out via email Its 730 pm the actual destination.a hike that late does not interest me and the general lack of organization on this event has me a bit flustered while I am an organizer for my own group, I just joined and with out knowing anyone in the groups leadership I don't want to take lead like that. Thanks Richard

After thinking about this a little more, I think I should change my RSVP to no until I hear for certain where you are going and what time. It looks from this morning's messages like you may be doing Skyline Lake, and I just did that a week ago. Great snowshoe destination but might be looking for something a little different this weekend. I'll keep monitoring the discussion, but to be safe, I'll take my name off the list right now.

Lee, was there a lot of snow when you did Skyline Lake

      December 6, 2013

    • Lee J.

Yes, Maryjane, there was plenty of snow there last time. Tom, a few things came up at work today, and I think I'm going to have to pass, unfortunately. I'm definitely interested in getting out with the group, though, so hopefully something will work out soon!

Annika and Chee- Wei, Hi you are both real close to me I can meet you both at the Fremont boat company 1059 n northlake way 98103. free parking all day at the marina Let me know if either of you need to be picked up we can make arrangements. Annika I will never say no to a hot beverage, However gas money is not needed also As with my own group I hit the trailhead early 7-7:30
which means we leave Seattle in the wee hours of the morning 5- 5:30 remember that most of the good trails are an hour to 90 minutes away. Richard

Hi What was the final destination which was decided? Skyline Lake?

    December 6, 2013

    • tom b.

Beth i think that's what Richard and the others are planning on. I don't think I'll join for that hike its a little short. I'm thinking im going to hike up denny creek to melakwa lake. I'm assuming just icy conditions snowshoes recommended but might not be needed. I'll be planning to leave Redmond around 730am.

weather looking cold and clear. from trip reports it doesn't look like we will need snowshoes but polls and traction devices highly recommended. Richard, I don't see much on the hikes you recommended. So what are your thoughts? Or anyone else who is on the list

also for anyone in the downtown Seattle area, I have a pathfinder with room so if anyone wants to car pool I can fit three more with gear for the first ones that ask.

    • Annika

I'm in Queen Anne. If I do decide to go can I reserve a spot? I will bring gas and buy you a hot beverage!

Tom, Looks like we will be getting snow at 1800 ft. both Thursday and Friday snow lake would be good however I just did that two weeks ago skyline on hwy. 2 another possibility. Also as mentioned earlier there are sno parks at and east of Snoqualmie Pass let me know I just need a good hike its been a couple months. Richard

  • Jody

Change of plans....family is coming in from out of town.

    December 3, 2013

  • Logan M.

Ok, there may be a possibility that I will not be able to go now... Im may be leaving town but not 100% sure. Ill keep you all updated!

Weather looks good Saturday but it doesn't look like we will have much new snow unless it dumps Friday. Lorri how was snow lake? I hiked Anette lake Saturday and we didn't need snowshoes. Traction would of helped but polls were ok. So if we head south or north we'll want to leave early. They are long drives plus it gets dark early so we want to make sure we have time. I do recommend everyone brings the 10 essentials. Dress in layers also. Anyone who has not said anything do you have an input on total distance or elevation.

Isn't that off hwy 20.... Hwy 20 was closed yesterday. What about Bullion Basin or Commonwealth Basin.... Let's check out the Paradise area as well. I'm not sure they have put out the markers yet and there could be avalanche danger. I've never done Commonwealth or Bullion Basin have you?

    December 2, 2013

    • tom b.

Hwy 20 is closed at diablo lake from what I saw. park Butte looks like 4x4 would be required plus snowmobiles are running on some of the trails.

  • Lorri K

Hey Tom, did you ever end up doing the Enchanted Valley backpacking trip?

    December 2, 2013

    • tom b.

Yes, twice. Looking to do a though hike next year.

      December 2, 2013

  • Lorri K

    What about Reflection Lake?

    December 2, 2013

  • tom b.

Artist point is amazing. Not to bad of a hike would only recommend it if the weather is clear. Park butte lookout tower might be nice or railroad grade a, little closer and nice views.

    December 2, 2013

  • Lorri K

My friend went up too Hurricane Ridge yesterday and there is no snow.. Artist point has snow but it's a long drive, I'm doing Snow Lake on Sunday so let's all check the WTA site for recent trail reports..

    December 2, 2013

  • Jody

    Is there a location yet?

    December 2, 2013

  • Connie

Where? I'm game for some immediate or advanced snowshoeing.

    December 1, 2013

    • Connie

      Oops! I meant intermediate... LOL

      December 1, 2013

  • Lorri K

I've done Artist Point to Huntoon Ridge at Baker but I'm still new and terrible at navigating in the snow.

I am not experienced, but any means, but would like to get out there!
