Announcing a new Meetup for The Seattle Snowshoeing Meetup Group!
What: Return to Mowich Lake!!
When: Sunday, January 17,[masked]:00 AM
Eastgate Park and Ride
14200 SE Eastgate W
Bellevue, WA 98007
I've been thinking about heading back to Mowich Lake since my last trip which was pretty cool. SO, off we go!!
NO MAYBE OPTION FOR THIS ONE. SO BEFORE YOU SAY YES, BE SURE YOU'RE GOING.
We meet nice and early so we have enough daylight to get to the lake and back. This hike has a variety of terrain along the way to the lake, including a "pack trail"(aka: short cut through the woods) which we will be taking to shave hiking distance and time. I found it last time and I'm sure I will again.
This should be a GREAT choice for adventurous beginners as well as veteran snowshoers!! The trail will start on a service road which will have a gradual climb and then once I find the pack trail we will venture off into the woods using the red markers on the trees to guide us along the trail to the lake. Be prepared to climb over the occasional tree log or snow berm. I remember having to do that when first getting into the woods from the main trail and of course on the way back too.
Here is what you should bring for the trip.....
YakTrax or Microspikes(in case there isn't enough snow for snowshoes we'll still have traction on ice if need be)
Plenty of water(I usually pack 3ltrs)
Plenty of layers since we'll warm up on the hike and cool off taking pics and eating.
Park and Ride:
Meet on the West side(Seattle side) of parking structure on the North(Canada) end of the lot.

Just scroll to the bottom of the link for Mowich.
FYI******** THE ROAD HEADING TO MOWICH HAS QUITE A FEW POT HOLES AND WE MAY OR MAY NOT ENCOUNTER SNOW ON THE ROAD. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING SNOW CHAINS JUST IN CASE.
I will be cross posting this event so to get a max of 12 going. I find that in larger groups the groups tend to set different paces since there are always faster and slower people. My personal rule is to stop and wait at all trail splits(this is mandatory)!!! If you get cold while waiting jog in place or something but don't leave ahead of the group at a split. Ya might be going the wrong way. Nuff said.
ONE MORE THING.....If the meetup shows full there is a waiting list, sign up anyways because if there is no response on the other group I'll adjust the numbers to allow for more.
