Yoga means to yoke or to join. Join us in Long Beach and Mission Viejo for Yoga classes, learning the Philosophy of Yoga, and related wellness events, etc... I am a massage therapist ( strictly non-sexual massage) and I also sell "Earth Friendly"organic household products, laundry & dish detergent, air fresheners, etc... Healthy for us & good for our planet.
Yoga was developed in 15th century India. There are 8 Branches of Yoga. I teach Hatha Yoga. Our Asanas (poses) were developed to prepare us for the highest form of meditation. It is not a religion but a practice of personal exploration. Yoga is good for our mind, body & spirit. Yoga is universal! There is no equipment required just a mat so we can practice anywhere! This makes Yoga ideal for practicing when we are on the road, especially if we travel for business.
Yoga is for everyone: men & women of all ages. Men account for about 50% of our classes. Many pregnant women practice Yoga with modifications (of course we should always consult with our doctor first). One of the many benefits of Yoga is that it makes for an easier delivery.
Yoga exercises our entire body. It stretches, tones & opens up our muscles, joints, spine & skeletal system. It also works on our internal organs, glands & nervous system.
Other benefits of our practice include increasing flexibility of our muscles and spine, creates space between the vertebrae in our spine, & it strengthens our entire system, It increases lung capacity, circulation, energy, balance & coordination, peace of mind & inner stillness, range of motion and concentration. Yoga decreases blood pressure, stress, risk of injury, mental chatter, pain, and negativity.
There are 5 basic principles of Yoga:
1 ~ Proper Diet: a balanced diet based on whole organic foods, avoiding or limiting processed & refined foods.
2 ~ Proper Exercise: Postures/Asanas; tones and stretches our body,
3 ~ Proper Breathing (Pranayama) teaches us how to recharge our body & control our mental well being & state of mind,
4 ~ Proper Relaxation: teaches us how to let go of fears and worries allowing us to release tension in our muscles and conserve our energy
5 ~ Positive Thinking and Meditation; helps us remove negative thoughts, internal chatter and it strengthens our Aura (our energy field that protects us)
When we practice the 5 principles of Yoga, our bodies start to function much more efficiently. Breathing properly is very important during our practice. Since breathing is an involuntary function we take our breathing for granted. Once we learn how to breathe properly, we can use our breath to get through any stress and challenges that arise in our daily lives.
Yoga is non-competitive. We practice Ahimsa, which is non violence in our words, thoughts and deeds to ourselves and others. We never push ourselves to the point of pain. We practice what we can to for today. It may be more or less than yesterday or tomorrow.
