I had a good time with you guys. Thanks for showing up.Michael N.- you were 'Top-Gun' for the group. Congrat's on your first Corbina! ( a top- rated surf fish) Mary Jane- thanks for bringing the Ghost Shrimp. I think those would be deadly for Sheephead and other bottom dwellers. - they might have worked good on the jetty. I think if we want to meetup there again, maybe we could pay to park at the Foodmart. -worth checking out, eh?-

You're welcome, was fun and nice meeting more fishy people! I've done fine on squid for sheephead but I've heard stories that they love shrimp/ghost shrimp more. I've been meaning to try it sometime. We are pretty local just let us know when and where and so long as we are free we will be there :)
Thanks again for organizing everything, Graeme. I hope to fish with you again one day. I had a blast. Please check out my new photos I just uploaded.
Ugh! Just saw the pics. Now I'm even more bummed.
It was a blast!
I'm really sad that I didn't make it. The memorial service was supposed to run from 11-3. Most of the people were there until 6pm and I still had to put away all the food. After that I was exhausted. I slept for 3 hours. I hope you all had a great time and caught a lot of fish.

No worries, there will be other trips :)

I had a blast, Graeme! This was easily one of the best fishing adventures I've had. Thanks for everything. I'll post some interesting pics.
I'm looking forward to seeing the pics. I hope we can do another one of these soon.
I don't know when I'll be able to get there. As I stated earlier we're hosting the neighbors memorial. It's already 3pm and most of hte neighborhood is still in our yard. :(
You can park on Catalina near the store we are on the sand to the right of the jetty you can call if you can't find us[masked]
Traffic is sucking on torrance we are almost there.
I'm a little too excited maybe. I love fishing and when it's almost time to go I get that same butterflies in the tummy feeling that most kids get about Disneyland. LOL. I think I have the right kind of tackle, but if someone can give me an idea of what I might need to bring that would be great. Also, are we meeting somewhere specific then walking to the water, or just meting at the water?

Also, what is parking like? I've never been to Redondo Beach.
From the notes It says we're meeting at the Food Mart? I haven't been there either (I usually park in the pier structure) so hopefully can chime in on the parking situation :)
I guess I missed that. Thanks.
Hi, I had to put in an address for the meetup spot so I chose the Foodmart. I fished near the little jetty below Sapphire St. last week. Maybe you could meet us near the jetty after 4pm or at the Foodmart at 4pm. Does that sound resonable for everyone?
Sheila, the last time I went surf fishing at Topanga state beach, I used fluorocarbon 4lb test line, #8 hooks, and for bait, Gulp Sand Worm Camo Colored. I had pretty good luck. Don't worry, just hit me up for the Sand Worms... I brought plenty. See you tomorrow.
When surf fishing...go light and leave your heavy gear at home. Your freshwater rod/reel will work, the one you use for trout fishing. As for terminal tackle, line should be 6-8 lbs, leader line 4-6 lbs, have a few small black swivels, 1/2 to 3/4 oz egg/bullet weights, white beads, and #4,6,8 mosquitos hooks for a Carolina rig. Your strategy: You don't need to cast too far...just look for the darker area or deep holes and stay out of the water! (Fish have eyes too!). I also, bring a hat and pair of hemostats/plier, in case, I catch fish and need to put my reel down (in hat, not in sand). Probably wondering what to use: Gulp Camo Sandworm "Crack", BH "Big Hammer" Perch grubs, and soft shell sand crabs work.Oh! The past two days, getting cool around 6pm! Finally, enjoy and have fun!
I'm really looking forward to it. I've been wanting to try surf fishing for a while. :)

Sheila, I went surf fishing at Topanga once. Had great success with the Gulp Camo colored fake worms. I'll bring a pack. Take some from me if you'd like. It's like crack for da fish...

I bought some off Amazon too, it should be here in time. My friend who fishes the area recommended it too!
That's great. Thank you.

I fished next to the Restrooms on the Boardwalk below Sapphire St.today. I was catching/getting bit on these Silver Perch Perch, I believe. I did see a Corbina going out with a wave when I first got there, so I was initially excited. The Sand-crabs were small so I pinned 2-4 of them my hook. (size 6 &8) Size 8 better for these small crabs. I started getting cold because of the overcast, constant breeze, 1/2 wet, I'm skinny etc. Next time I want to bring waders or a 1/2 wetsuit, warmer clothes, (beenie, hoody, jacket etc.)They do sell frozen bait at the Food Mart. -Mussel, clams etc.Corbina are lurking! I couldn't get through the perch though.

Graeme, I've had great luck surf fishing with the Gulp Worms Camo color. I bought many and can share with the group... It's like crack for the fish...
BF and I caught a cold, but we should be better by Saturday (fingers crossed). We've never been surf fishing and have had our rods since February.. would love to finally test them out. I'll make a run to Paul's in San Pedro in the morning and pick up some ghost shrimp and other bait. If you want me to grab you anything, let me know.

Graeme changed the location to Redondo Food Mart
I think the meet time should be later than 4:00 now or in the morning. What do you guys think? There might be a lot of swimmers/kids in the surf at that time. I'm not sure on the exact spot to fish either. I might do a 'recon' this weekend to check on Sand-crab and Human quantities. :)

Hi Graeme... I'm cool with that. Let's confirm a location to meet. I vote for Redondo. Any advice of bait, test line, hook size, and sinker size would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, man.
I'm cool with later. Hosting the neighbors memorial earlier in the day so I won'tb e able to make it if it's earlier.

I think it's a go, Graeme. Let's lock in a location and a time to meet.

Graeme, I am so totally in, man! I love fishing. It reminds me of my old SCUBA diving days. Only I can't SCUBA anymore because I'm married... and got a mortgage. Anyways, man, I'm hoping we can make this happen!
