Moonlight Fishing Casatic Lake

This will be at the upper lake.

LARGE MOUTH BASS,CATFISH,AND STRIPERS. The line to enter the lake gets long, real long. You do need a freshwater state license for this lake.We are required to have night sticks...please bring your own. They sell them there for maybe $2 a stick. Any other questions feel free to ask !!

SHORE FISHING FROM THE DAMN...THERE IS BOAT RENTAL.

Admission: $6 per person + all vehicle entrance fees and launch fees apply ($11 per vehicle/$13 per boat or annual permit)

I use a 15lb. Test. Line

Catfish feed by smell and sight but usually monofilament or braided line is fine for them. More expensive flurocarbon line is normally not necessary but does work well if you want to use it. For smaller cats 10 to 15 pound test monofilament line is good but for big cats 30 pound test or heavier monofilament and braid from 30 pound test up is best.

Bullet or round sinkers both work. You need a strong swivel when fishing for big cats. A short shanked hook is usually used. For years a straight shanked hook with an offset point was common. Now, circle hooks are usually used for catfish. Choose a size suitable for the size catfish you are trying to catch. A #1 hook is good for pan size catfish, a 2/0 is good for fish in the 3 to 5 pound range, on up to a 10/0 for monster catfish.

Catfish will hit almost any bait. For flatheads, live minnows and sunfish are best.  Earthworms, liver, stink baits, crickets, cut bait.

Lets meet at Carl's Jr. right off the freeway and there is a bait shop across the street 7pm.

I'll have on a YELLOW OR ORANGE VEST MY NUMBER IS[masked]

It was a great night; it hardly mattered that we didn't catch any fish! It felt like a practice run for me anyway since it has been so long that I have been fishing! Everyone was so helpful and the company was GREAT. I really enjoyed meeting all of you! See you on the next trip!

Good to meet you guys. I think the conditions were not very good for fishing. The Blob is coming! Run!
There was this floating mass of algae that floated by us at one point and made fishing from the dam very difficult. Then there was this boat that was making a racket while trying to get his motor going.
    Bad fishing, good people.

Thank you, Will, for organizing this meetup. It was great meeting you and I'm telling my wife as we speak what a nice guy you are. It was honestly the most beautiful scenic fishing location I've been to. The stars was awesome. And the company was even better. If only that darn motor didn't scare away all the fish. Check out the photos I just uploaded. But again, thanks, Will, for organizing.

Traffic was better than I thought. Exit parker road and carls Jr is on the right. Delicatessen home made sandwiches is the bait shop.

Scorching temps!! Does anyone have intel if it will bite at 100F (even if at night, won't cool that much!) or have done fishing at those conditions in the past at Castaic?!

Do you think the West boat ramp will be open?
I would like to fish off the shore there. What do you guys think?

    June 23, 2013

    • Dave L.

To drive to the west ramp you have to enter thru the lagoon area. Doubt that entrance will be open. But you can walk across the dam area from the main ramp. Though ive never tried it.
