Fish Jenks Lake June 30

Beautiful area, no fee fishing-just need a license and 5 bucks for parking!

How to find us I will PM you where to go!

I may change the date by one week if they do not stock!

This is a fun and beautiful place to fish. I can practically guarantee everyone will catch something when it is stocked. =) Everyone I have taken there has caught fish so far (crosses fingers).

This place is only a couple hours drive from LA, 3/4 up the 38, about 35 miles from Big Bear City. It is just north of Angelus Oaks, nestled up in the mountains among the gorgeous evergreens. There are bbq's, tables with benches, rest rooms, so it is comfortable.

All you need is light tackle 2-4lb test (I also use flourocarbon for leaders), treble hooks (14-20 size) or single hooks (8-10 size), 1/4-1/2oz weight or a filled water bobber and a swivel or carolina keeper. Bait is garlic or salmon peach dough and or night crawlers. I also use a sauce-either garlic, roe, or corn. Flies also work here and so do lures like Panther Martins, Thomas Buoyants, Super Dupers, Rooster Tails and the like for those who like to throw hardware.

Bring a chair to sit on, a cooler, etc. along with tackle. Some of you may have kayaks, canoes, float tubes, and/or inflatable boats. These are all allowed as long as you dont have a motor on them. There is a long set of stairs going down to the lake that you have to negotiate while carrying your equipment.

Carpooling can be arranged too! Its a great way to save gas-especially since the price is nuts!

We could even rent a cabin if people are willing to stay over night-its only about 90/night near the santa ana river, and can sleep like 3-6. They have full kitchens, bathroom, etc. We can cook the fish within hours of catching them.

Now the date may change, it all depends on when the lake opens and when they stock. I will keep you in the loop.

It really is a great place to fish, for beginners, veterans, etc.

Hope to see you there!

Chuck

Wasn't really a meetup this time. Only my wife, daughter, myself and Melissa and her friend showed up. The best spots were already taken when I got there at 6:30 and we couldn't hold any space for Melissa.

There's a tree that fell down (years ago) and the trunk has been cut into a few pieces. Set up in front of that log.

Melissa, do you still have directions to Chuck's favorite spot? Down the stairs, to the left about 120 feet past the bathrooms... Marc will be able to show you...

Norm, Sorry to hear your friend got injured. I was hoping to get a fish report from you. With the weather being so hot, I'm thinking the trout will not be as active. Anyways, I think my wife and daughter are coming with me tomorrow if I can get them out of bed. Are you still going on the Arboretum ride Sunday?

    June 29, 2012

  • Marc

Hey Chuck, I haven't heard anything from you lately. Are you going tomorrow?

    June 29, 2012

  • Norm

Alas, my lady has injured her knee, and will not be able to make it this time. That, and the fact that I've been gone 6 out of the last 7 weekends, causes me to reconsider this outing. I've still got 14 trout in the freezer, to boot! Good luck, one and all! Maybe in 2 weeks?

    June 29, 2012

  • Marc

Melissa, hope to meet you on saturday too

    June 27, 2012

  • Marc

Thanks Norm and congrats on catching a "keeper". Hope to see you Saturday.

Well, it took me 90 days, but I finally landed a 100 lb. Trout! That's REALLY her last name! And we're scheduled to leave L.A. noonish on Friday, head out to Jenk's between 4 & 7, then spend the night in Yucaipa. Sat. morning start fishing when we're both ready. My guess is we'll be there by 7. I saw how quick the parking lot filled last time. Marc, I'll give you a call to confirm events by Friday 7pm. That is, if I get reception from the lake. Sooner, if better!

  • Melissa

I want to make sure this is definite and end up being the only one there...scarryyy...

    June 27, 2012

  • Melissa

what time shall we be expecting norm's leisure approach?

    June 27, 2012

  • Marc

Hey Norm, if you make it to Jenks on Friday, let me know how it was. If fishing is good, I'll probably see you on Saturday. If not, I'll see you on Sunday at NoHo.

    June 27, 2012

  • Norm

A ha, my little Street Angel, we're scheduled for Saturday morning. If it's up to Chuck, it would be 6am. I, myself, take a more leisurely approach. Like Pink, the party gets started, when you arrive!

    June 27, 2012

  • Melissa

Is Jenks lake happening definitely now?
    What time is fishing?

    June 27, 2012

  • Norm

I might try to go up Friday morning, do a little fishing, then head back to Yucaipa, at the foothills for an easy access sleepover, and join you, again on Saturday... but everything is up in the air.

    June 24, 2012

  • Melissa

Chuck, I read they will be restocking Jenks the week of 6/24 Sun. Is that still good for our upcoming Saturday 6/30?

    June 24, 2012

  • Melissa

-Bait is garlic or salmon peach dough and or night crawlers. A sauce-either garlic, roe, or corn... =O)
