Balboa Lake Fishing (Families and Kids Welcome)

This is a fun family event for kids, adults, etc.

Balboa lake has lots of Carp, Catfish, Tilapia etc. All you need is a cheap pole, 1/2 oz weights, size 8 single hooks, and either corn, corn tortillas, or earth worms.

We will meet at Balboa park. If you are facing the waterfall, we will be to the right of it, and down the shore about 150 feet near the trees.

Adults need a CA fishing license, kids under 16 do not.

The kids will probably catch Tillapia, and they will range from 2" to 12" in length. The adults may want to go for the larger carp and catfish, although any opportunity to wet a line is fun ;).

Things to bring:
Pliers or hemostat
Pole Holders
Cooler: something to eat and drink.
Sun Screen

There are bathrooms (about a couple hundred yards away or more).

This is reclaimed water so I would advise not to eat the fish. The kids will have a blast catching fish though.

Thanks Big K for all your help and patience!!

PS - I used to use corn and balled up bread, growing up on Long Island, NY for carp and flounders.

Believe it or not, I've used white bread balled up tightly on the hook and caught both tilapia and carp there last month.

I wonder what will hit corn and worms on the same hook? :)

I just learned our friend Koshaw is moving out of state and won't be around to fish with us anymore. I want to thank him for helping me get back to fishing again and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
