Yosemite - President's weekend

Yeah!  It's that time of the year again to shoot Yosemite with its winter coat! We will be celebrating the wonderful winter in Yosemite for three nights.

Plan to get to arrive on Friday; Saturday we'll go into the park, do some site seeing, photography and maybe some hiking or snowshoeing depending on conditions. The park also offers an Ansel Adams photo walk every Saturday morning at 9:00. On Sunday we can either going back into park or find good photography near our accommodations. We'll drive home on Monday. There is no limit to winter photography in Yosemite!!! You can plan your own adventures as well. Park entrance fee is $20 (per car) but good for the whole time we are there.

We are staying at the Yosemite Bug Hostel, in a co-ed dormitory cabin that sleeps 12. The beds have sheets and blankets but bring a sleeping bag (for those who have come in the past, these accommodations are on the main campus near the communal kitchen, two rooms that sleep six each, connected with a bathroom, this is not the Starlight house). There is a full kitchen on the campus, so you can cook if you do not want to eat out each day. There is a café on the campus that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is delicious!

The cost is $115 for the weekend for accommodations. We'll arrange carpooling as we get closer to the event.

CARPOOLING: We'll meet at 10:00 at the Fullerton Park-n-Ride, at the corner of Orangethorpe and Magnolia, where the 91 and 5 come together.

The RSVP will be wait-listed until I receive a check for the full $115. Once you RSVP, I'll send you an email with mailing instructions for the check.  You will be moved to a full Yes RSVP upon receipt of your check.  The space is limited to 12 people.  This will be a first check/first reserved situation.

Tucked away under one of the van seats, I found someone's folding umbrella from this trip. No brand name but it has a velcro closing flap. Now this is more handy these days than Jim's shoes.

Someone left a rather new brown pair of size 9.5 hiking shoes in my car, but they're a bit small for me.

False alarm I got them. Ha! Not me :-)

Ooops - I guess I left those, Peter. I'll try to leave the right size for you next time. But in the meantime, I'll figure out some means of picking them up from you. Thanks!

Hopefully, visiting dignitaries to Fresno Yosemite International Airport today will not get in the way of our drive. Too bad there's no photo ops: http://www.fresnobee.com/2014/02/12/3766279/president-obama-comes-to-fresno.html

Hi guys, since it's almost Friday it's safe to assume that the waitlisters won't be able to attend. So, if some one from the waiting list wants to still do a Yosemite photo tour in the near future then message me may be we can plan something. Thanks. N those who r attending the event, have fun waiting eagerly to see your pictures. ☺

Angela, how can I connect with you to meet up. We probably won't be there until late Fri. night.

    February 9, 2014

    • Angela W.

Pam - it's not a bad idea, but if they don't have spots, don't worry, you can tag along so long as we aren't too obvious. We are also planning a custom photo walk with a professional photographer, please join us if you are interested

Thanks Angela, I was able to put my name on the list just not my husband's. Thanks for the invite, we might take you up on the custom photo walk depending on the time and day. See you Sat.

So, the little bit of rain over the weekend in Yosemite brought much needed water to Yosemite Falls, which appeared dry last week. Half Dome has snow, and the sun is shining once again. We can only hope for another bit of cold weather. Good news, park entrance fees are waived from Saturday, February 15 to Monday, February 17, 2014 in commemoration of President's Day. This is a first!!

Just in case you have not seen this. It is an app from Michael Frye a Yosmite photographer. It gives a list of great places to shoot in Yosemite and the best times of the year and day to shoot. It is very helpful. Used it last time I went. https://itunes.apple.c...

Angelia. Is the spot still open? If so let me know. I'll let my employer know tomorrow I need some time off. Would like to carpool with the group if possible.

My spot is open until someone from waiting list will take it and pay for it. Thanks

    February 6, 2014

David - we are working on the carpool via email. Can you check the email you have associated with Meetup? Thanks.

      February 6, 2014

Hi all, I'm going to be up there the same weekend with a few friends. Anyone interested in doing a Glacier Point shuttle? We'll need two cars, so let me know if you are interested. Of course, my car with be one of them. Basically, park one car at the bottom...take the other car to the top...hike down and take spectacular photos along the way. Get to the bottom and get in the second car and drive to the top to pick up the first car. We can take the bus to the top too, but it's just more problematic with timing, and possible getting stuck with not being able to get a bus back up after hiking down. If you've never done this hike, it is a MUST DO! If there is not enough time on this trip, you should book another trip to Yosemite soon just so you can take advantage of this gem.

Great. I've got all wheel drive with snow tires in Chains, so depending on the accessibility we may be able to get there or not. Will have to keep an eye out on the road conditions

      February 6, 2014

    • Angela W.

FYI-Here is the number for road conditions in Yosemite[masked]-0200. The road from Badger Pass to Glacier Point is closed to vehicular traffic for the season.

Are we to arrive in Yosemite at 12 on Friday or meet with carpoolers at 12 on Friday

    January 30, 2014

    • Silke T.

sorry, hit return by accident, Angela, if I have to cancel, would you be able to refund or not cancel my check since there is someone else interested?

      January 30, 2014

    • Angela W.

It is possible to meet the group in Yosemite, it's just a bit harder to coordinate, since there is no cell service in the valley. If you find other accommodations and want to join us, our first stop on Saturday will be the Ansel Adams walk at 9:00 starting at the Ansel Adams Gallery in the valley.

Would love to go. Maybe I'll go with a group of my photography friends and meet you all up there.

Angela, I am unclear on the dates. Meeting lists Thursday 2/13/14 as start, but your description says we arrive on Friday 2/14/13? What am I missing?

    • Angela W.

Sorry Barnet, my error. The trip starts on Friday.

I am also interested in carpools, when the time comes.

    Will carpools be arranged?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
