Torrey Pines Art Festival and Wildflower Shoot

The wildflowers are not so showy this year, but Torrey Pines is always spectacular.  Let’s support a local State Natural Reserve and shoot the beautiful park at The Art in The Pines Spring Art Festival, which celebrates nature through the artists eye. The day will include music, refreshments, guided nature walks, an art walk and of course, the beautiful park which is easily hike-able and overlooks the beautiful coastline.

The Torrey pine is one of North America's rarest pines. Only two native stands exist; one in coastal San Diego, California, and the other on Santa Rosa Island near Santa Barbara, California. There are over four hundred species of native flora grow within the 2,000-acre Reserve, including California poppies and coast cholla. And lastly, there is a salt marsh worth exploring.

Carpooling: For folks who want to carpool, we'll meet at 9:00 at the Tustin Marketplace near 5 and 55. Exit Jamboree, north. On the Irvine side (east), parking near the Ritz Camera store and Lenscrafters. (Babies R Us is the big box store in this particular parking lot). For those driving on their own, Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is located between La Jolla and Del Mar, California, north of San Diego. Take Hwy 5 south to Carmel Valley Road, go West to Camino Del Mar (coast hwy). Go South (left) about a mile to the reserve entrance (right) at the foot of the hill. There will be shuttle buses available from the parking lot to the park. Parking is $10 per car.  We will meet at the visitors center at 10:00.

Glad some of you want to do the Super Moon tomorrow. I was thinkng of going to Oceanside pier so I have a clear view east of the moonrise at 7:30 PM. Then then shoot the pier from the beach at sunset too. It's a really great night shoot. It's on the way home for all the OC people. This pier is great for sunset pics. I'm doing a crazy long day of shooting tomorrow with Torrey Pines, Flower Fields, and Super Moon....would love the company if anyone is interested.

Might be worth a wander to the reef area in La Jolla. I'd be willing to scope out the La Jolla shore area and then decide on whether to stay late or not. It'll still be earlier than when I got home from Joshua Tree! Let's see how tomorrow goes...

It would be a great place to photograph it but not sure if I can stay that late or not. Will have to see how it goes tomorrow.

I think at the horizon is 8:30. It was just a thought but because we are going to be away from city lights it would be a wonderful opportunity! Don't know the area.

Do you know what time it is supposed to rise? I think they close the park at 7:30.

I know this makes for a long day but has anyone thought about photographing the "large moon" tomorrow night?

I will meet at the visitors center also. Is is close to the parking lot or does it take a while to get there from the lot? Just want to allow myself enough time.

Angela, I will meet you at the visitors center. Is it just up the hill from the beach? I don't think I have noticed it before. It will be nice to see you again :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
