The Mars Society in San Diego presents... Mars Movie Night!
We meet in the San Diego Reader building, the facade of which is pictured below:
Then you go around the west-facing side of the building and look for a door with a "Mars Movie Night" flyer on it. Here's what to expect inside the event! Also, usually any scientists who are in attendance will be asked to comment on the relevant science facts to the content we are watching.
Mars Movie Night - Mars in "The Outer Limits" (1964 & 1995)
Here are the episodes we'll be watching...
"The Invisible Enemy" (1964)
Two astronauts travel to Mars, but never return home. A second expedition is sent to find out why, and two crew members are mysteriously suctioned into the sand shortly after arrival. Mission Commander Merritt and his Captain are left--with the shocking realization that their 'invisible enemy' is really a band of man-eating sand sharks! When Merritt gets marooned in the middle of the shark-infested sand pool, a safe return to the ship seems impossible. With only minutes left to blast-off, Merritt must outsmart his deadly opponents -- or never see Earth again!
"The Brain of Colonel Barham" (1964)
A dying astronaut volunteers his mind be linked to a supercomputer, to enable the U.S. to beat the Soviet Union to Mars. His wife and an Air Force psychiatrist oppose the brain removal, fearing that the arrogant spaceman's brain won't adapt, making his death futile. But the Cold War space race takes precedence, so the experiment proceeds, despite eerie developments.
"The Voyage Home" (1995)
Three astronauts exploring Mars discover a mysterious canister. When they open it, they are struck unconscious. Awakening nearly an hour later, they must hurry back to their ship to make their launch window. But on the way home, Ed becomes convinced that fellow astronaut Alan is not what he appears to be, and murders him by forcing him out the airlock. Now Ed and his remaining crew member Pete must decide what to do.
