‘Cosmos: A Personal Voyage’, a PBS TV series which globally inspired millions is being shown at the Regency Theater in San Juan Capistrano. Written, produced and hosted by the globally renowned astronomer and science popularizer Carl Sagan, one episode is presented the second Wednesday of each month by an outstanding expert in the topic covered in the episode. This is the series that inspired the more recent documentaries hosted by Sagan protégés.
Episode 12: “Encyclopaedia Galactica” Is there intelligent life beyond the Earth? Dr. Sagan espoused to intelligent life on other planets and was co-founder of The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to scientific research, education and public outreach. This episode discusses the probability of alien life using the Drake Equation. Doctor Garrett Lisi will discuss whether life on other planets is possible and if so, where are they?
Lisi is a theoretical physicist of a different bend. He found an optimum balance between surfing and pursuing his research in Quantum Field Theory in Maui after receiving his degree at UC San Diego. He soon found a unified model of particle physics previously unseen by anyone, 'An Exceptionally Simple Theory of Everything' (E8 Theory). His story and work have been featured in TED, and other notable journals. He is currently hosting a new documentary for the History Channel called INVENTION USA.
