Dr. Brian Hart, founder, SoCal Science Cafe, here, and I am writing with a two fold objective. As a veteran myself, I want to wish you all a safe and pleaseant Memorial Day and Memorial Day weekend. I will be remembering my grandfather on my Mom's side, Lyle Hopkins, may he rest in peace, who died of cancer when I was 8.
He was an E4 (Corporal) in the Army just like I was. He served in WWII. My other grandfather, Wayne Hart, also served in the Army as a medical logistics NCO (non-commissioned officer, i.e., Sergeant etc.) in a Paris office building after Paris was liberated. He then spent a career as a Federal civil servant working for the VA.
I've served in the National Guard as an E4 (Specialist) Tactical Satellite Systems Operator and Maintainer, myself. Now I am a Federal civil servant for Dept. of Army. It's a very fulfilling and rewarding career and gives me a sense of pride to be doing something to serve my country.
At The Science Cafe, we like to have online discussions from time to time about science and society and current scientific events which are making waves. I invite you to join us and carry on with our discussion about the BP Oil Spill.

Thank you. Have a safe and pleasant Memorial Day.
