Daniel,

By the way, Daniel, might I suggest that instead of going by "The Physics Groupie" let's give you the title of "Physics Ambassador."  You can be in charge of showing the SoCal Science Cafe members how great Physics is by posting your favorite lectures as Meetups and hosting a little get together to go to the lecture.

Welcome aboard to Daniel Guiterrez, our Physics Ambassador!

Thank you. Have a pleasant day.

Very Respectfully,

Brian Hart

Dear Daniel,

I am all for that, and Daniel, as a member of the Leadership Team, I am hoping some of our Assistant Organizers and Science Ambassadors will work together to make this happen and to wear/bring our branded products to their hosted events.
I am even thinking, for each of our regional Ambassadors, such as University of California, Irvine, Orange County Astronomers, San Diego Space Society, and SoCal Movie Fanatics, we can create lines of co-branded stuff too!

Assistant Organizers, who among you will be willing to take some leadership and work together amongst you to get this off the ground?

Thank you. Have a pleasant day.

Very Respectfully,

Brian Hart

Brian,

Please see my new post on the message forum about Zazzle.com as a possible better choice for selling products.

Dear Brian,

If we all put in orders at the retail price and pay for the items, we can then order the first lot.  Most of us would be willing to wait for the order to be processed.

You will have to get a shopping cart, or some way to order and have the deliveries made.  That would take some seed money.  You could give credit for the seed money on future orders of merchandise, say we get 50% off coupons equal to the amount we contribute for putting up money for the start up.   The money to finance the coupons would come from the markup on the products.

We should start with something simple and unisex, without sizes, like a baseball hat or book bag.  I will not wear a t-shirt because I am fat and female.  T-shirts have to be ordered in a lot of sizes, increasing the difficulty of the first order.  I vote for a bookbag or tote.  Simple, cheap, unisex, usable, graphic, easy to spot in a crowd.

Dear members,

Hello!  My name is Dr. Brian Hart and I am the Founder of SoCal Science Cafe.  Greetings from the Great State of Alabama, where I presently reside.  For those who do not know me, I am from Minnesota originally, and I went to the University of California, Irvine, where I received my Ph.D. in Astrophysics.  I started SoCal Science Cafe in 2004 and it's been going strong ever since!  Welcome, everyone!

Two items to discuss with you: First, I am asking members to go to this discussion board:
and contribute entries for a competition to describe the SoCal Science Cafe for our "About" page.  Get creative!  The toolbar for writing posts lets you use pictures, links, colors, and fonts.  After a month, the entries will be voted on by the group in a Poll.  How would you describe the group to someone going to our website and considering joining?

The entry will replace what is currently displayed at http://www.Meetup.com/SoCal-Science-Cafe/about/
Secondly, I am all for the idea that has been posted about branded items, but as it stands the Cafe program has no money with which to buy or have the initial set of items made.  Would you donate to an initial "starter fund" in order to get things going?

Answer here:

Thank you. Have a pleasant day.

Very Respectfully,

Brian Hart
