From: Stan W.

The Orange County Chapter of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, will end its[masked] year with a May-meeting extravaganza: a filet mignon dinner followed by a presentation by Prof. Daniel Whiteson of the Large Hadron Collider team in Geneva! How can you beat that?

Dr. Whiteson, Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy at UCI and hands-on-scientist on the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva is an exceptionally skilled communicator of science. He will give an update on the why, the what and the how of one of mankind’s greatest collaborative intellectual efforts, involving over 10,000 people from 111 nations, people who have dedicated a significant part of their lives and nations that have invested tens of billions of dollars in this world-wide scientific collaboration in Geneva to address the most perplexing problems in physics.

The meeting announcement is attached. Save the date! Click on the links in the announcement for an amazing tour of the facility and the detectors.

Now, look way, way ahead. Next January we're celebrating the Silver Jubilee of being saved from extinction! Twenty-five years of strong bimonthly dinner-lecture programs supported by you, our faithful supportive friends. And in January, we're going to celebrate! Mark it in red on your calendars!

Three Cheers for Science! (Pronounced SIG MA XI!)
