Dick Tracy, created by cartoonist Chester Gould, the strip made its first appearance on October 4, 1931, in the Detroit Mirror. It was a long-running comic strip featuring a popular hard-hitting, fast-shooting, and supremely intelligent police detective. On January 13, 1946, Gould changed Dick Tracy forever with the introduction of the 2-Way Wrist Radio that was eventually upgraded to a 2-Way Wrist TV in 1964. Later, in the early 1980s, the watch also incorporated a digital camera to allow him to send back pictures of crime scenes and fingerprints to the lab!

Simply said, semiconductor technology is the enabling technology that makes modern life possible. In this discussion, we will review how semiconductors technology played, and continue to play, an undeniably pivotal role in the explosive growth of our technical civilization via the unprecedented progress in digital and analog integrated circuits (IC) based on Moore’s law. . . And finally, making the Dick Tracy Watch a reality!

We will also discuss the trends and excitement in an electronic engineering career as the required ingenuity-force to continue these technological innovations and drive the integration of emerging technologies into our day-to-day lives.
