Dear SoCal Science Cafe members,
Welcome to the SoCal Science Cafe group! My name is Brian Hart, and I am the founder of this group. I want to thank Paul Shin for his continued leadership of this group. In this update, I just want to be in touch with a quick note about me. As you recall, I started SoCal Science Cafe while still a PhD student in Astrophysics at the University of California, Irvine. After completing my doctorate, I moved back to my home state of Minnesota.
These past six months or so have seen me drive back to Minnesota where the cold winds are blowing, snow is having to be shoveled, and I excercise in 16-degree (or 21-below) weather! Invigorating! I am moving on to the South now, where hopefully it is a little warmer. I am with the Army now, as a Physicist at Army Space Missile Defense Command. I am told I have to report to the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, around the first of April. The job is Classified Top Secret, so I am not at liberty to share anything else about it.
I am going to be far less active on this list than even I have been these past few months, because in my new role it would be inappropriate for me to speak, lest anyone get the wrong idea; i.e., that my words represent Federal space policy. Plus, I am on restriction as to what I can publish (which goes for this list) without a lengthy security review process. Therefore, I am going to step even further away from the current activities of Science Cafe, and leave it in Paul Shin and our Regional Event Partners' capable hands.
Science Cafe has meant a great deal to me, and I will miss everyone who is in the group. I hope you will be in touch with me, but I may not be able to answer you back very much. Wish me luck, and know that I am working to support our troops!
