California Wildfires

Dear SoCal Science Caf? members:

Hello!? My name is Dr. Brian Hart, astrophysicist, and the founder of SoCal Science Caf?.? I am just writing to say hello and to convey my thoughts to everyone affected by the wildfires near L.A. and elsewhere in California. ?BTW, you can just call me “Brian.”? I am trying to loosen up and be more informal.

Back in Fall 2007, when I was attending the University of California, Irvine to finish up my Ph.D., we had lots of fires going that Fall.? (Remember?)? I lived in Laguna Hills at the time, and there were flames just 10 minutes from my house!? Holy crap!? And driving at night, I could see fire everywhere.? Back then, I was really super-motivated to get my Ph.D….you could say, even, “on fire;” so the wildfires didn’t really faze me much at the time because I thought, “well, they’re just reflecting how I am feeling inside.”

But enough digression.? Wildfires can be dangerous and deadly, and my sympathies and prayers go out to anyone who has lost a home or had loved ones injured by the blaze.? Keep safe!
