Kerntastic! Rafting, Water Slides, Giant Trees + One Free 500GB USB Drive [SCT]

I talked to my friend Jon at and they've agreed to sponsor this event by donating a 500GB USB drive.  Please check out their site.  Some of the devices they can recover data from include pc & mac hard drives, cell phones & smart phones (iPhone), and flash drives.  I'll have a drawing on Saturday evening to give the 500GB USB drive away.

This July 1-3 let's go rafting!  We'll drive up Friday, camp, drive back Sunday, and be home for the 4th.  Some may stay through Monday.  On this trip we'll go rafting down the Upper Kern River with professional guides, splash around on natural smooth rock water slides (easy two mile hike roundtrip), stroll among giant trees 1,500 years old and 20 feet thick, and hang out around the campfire where we'll roast marshmallows for smores and play games like Catchphrase and Twister.  We'll be able to see and hear the river from our camping area.  This trip is all about having a good time and meeting fun people, so think of everyone as a new friend. :)

For rafting (Sunday) we'll have four groups. The beginner-friendly Class III Alpha group will do the Class III rapids run and will finish in one hour.  The beginner-friendly Class III Bravo group will do the same Class III rapids run two times in a row and will finish in 2.5 hours.  The beginner-friendly Class IV group will do rapids up to Class IV and will finish in[masked] hours.  The advanced Class V group will do rapids up to Class V and will finish in 7-8 hours with lunch included (wetsuit required).  No experienced necessary except for the Class V group in which you need to have previously rafted a class IV rapid.  All Class V rafters must be physically fit and good swimmers.

Kids must be at least 6 years for the Class III runs, 12 for the Class IV run, and 16 for the Class V run and must weigh at least 50 lbs.  Sorry, no dogs for this event.  The drive will take 3.5 hours from LA + traffic.  Current weather in Kernville.

Trip fee includes rafting, firewood, campfire permit & water buckets & safety shovels, marshmallows & Smores, roasting sticks, detailed trip itinerary handout & customized map, camp table, hand washing station, trash & recycle bags, dry erase board, shade tent, extra camp chairs, and wrist band.

I can do refunds until Sunday June 26 @ 10pm. Afterwards, you'll need to find a replacement.

We'll be camping in a secret "dispersed" area with two porta-potties, not in a developed campground, so we can put our tents any place we've claimed, and we can make noise and spread out.  I'll have a hand-washing station set up at our camp and am currently working to see if we can get hot showers for Saturday evening.  Quiet time will be from 12:00am to 8:30am.

The guides won't allow sandals or bare feet.  You'll need a second pair of shoes that won't fall off to get wet ($15 at most sporting goods stores).  Life jackets & helmets are provided.  Wet suits are optional and can be rented for $19.  Rafting times are approximate and may go up or down based on how fast the river's flowing and that day's conditions.  Leave everything you don't want to get wet in your car.  If you have a good time please tip the guides.

Eat dinner on your way up Fri night.  Bring food for breakfast and lunch on Sat & breakfast on Sun.  We'll be eating in restaurants on Saturday evening.  There are restaurants and markets nearby.

Shoes you can get wet, one gallon of drinking water per person per day, water bottle, snacks, comfortable shoes to hike in, food for breakfast & lunch on Sat & breakfast on Sun, warm clothes for night time, flashlight, sunscreen, sun glasses, hat, camera, one camp chair per person, and camping gear (sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent). Email me if you won't have a camp chair or need space in someone else's tent.

Will email directions & my phone number to the Yes list on Thursday June 30th.

I will help organize everyone signed up into carpools.  Additionally, feel free to post a comment with whether you're looking to ride or drive along with where you'll be coming from and how many people you can take.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
