Leopard sharks are about 4-6 feet long and are not human-aggressive. They'll be in the shallows of La Jolla Shores for their annual breeding season. This is a very common ocean activity and I went last year with a guide - it was awesome! We'll snorkel around and see not only leopard sharks, but fish, sting rays, and lots of other sea life.
Bring fins, snorkel, mask, and a spring suit or full wetsuit - all can be rented at nearby shops (for example, La Jolla Kayak has a fins, snorkel, mask, and suit rental package for $25). Wear plenty of sunscreen! We'll meet at The Map® near the restrooms, next to the playground.
*You must be able to swim! I'm not trained in rescue, but there are lifeguards on duty. I highly recommend attending the 3Rs class on June 15 to familiarize yourself with the area.
