Film a Documentary, eat, and talk about My Little Pony

My name is Ashley, I am in the television department at CSUN and I am the producer of a documentary that my group and I are making about Bronies. We wanted to set up a meet up so we could get footage of you guys interacting with each other and also interview some of you. We would have the meet up at CSUN. How many of you would come if we held a meet up like this? We would decorate the place with My Little Pony things, and we would love it if you guys brought some of your My Little Pony toys, games, or decorations, or costumes etc.

Please let me know if this is something that any of you would be interested in. We would also mail/email you a copy of the documentary once we are finished with it. We would provide food and drinks for everyone and any My Little Pony stuff we buy for the interview room we would give to you guys after the meet up.

Thank you everyone, I look forward to hearing from you. We do not have a date set yet because we want to know what would work best for those of you that decide to come. It would be within the next two weeks though.

Hey guys! Once again, we are all excited to have you all at the meet-up! The dorm address is 17950 Lassen St. Northridge, CA 91325. Once you get there, text me at [masked] if you get lost. The start time is 12 noon and should last for a couple of hours. Also, please bring any MLP related paraphernalia so that our shoot can be as colorful as possible! See you all tomorrow!

Unfortunately my new job delayed in training and needs to use Sunday as a training day. But I'm not mad, since they're offering me free food. To all of the people that attend this, lead our group well! Display the great side of SoCal Bronies!

I'm interested in heading up, but it certainly is a bit of a drive for me from North San Diego County. I would love to share my experience in the fandom with both bronies, the VAs, and so much more. I have quite a bit of stuff I can bring, it's just I'm not sure about the traveling up on Sunday. Well, hooves crossed that I can!

Hey everyone! our meet is this Sunday! I'm speaking on the behalf of everyone in my group when I say that we are all looking forward to meeting all of you! As I posted earlier, the location we are having it will be at the dorms on Zelzah Ave. and Superior St. For those of you still planning on going, can you please reply to my comment so we know how much food and goodies to get?!?! Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone!! Can't wait for the meet up!! Does anyone have any archival footage that we could use in our documentary? I have a form for you to fill out so we can legally use it. Let me know and I will give you my email address to email the footage to me and then i will send you the form to fill out so you can just email it back to me. Any footage we could get would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

    • Heather S.

I know you said "any", but do you guys have a preference as to what footage you'd like? Like, what would you like to see us doing? This doc is to paint us in a positive light, so I understand if you'll want specific clips.

Is there a chance anyone could give me a ride?

    March 11, 2014

  • Heather S.

Also, since you're filming on campus, you should put the address in the "Needs a location" section. This makes it much easier for people to map out the directions. :)

    March 10, 2014

    • deegz10

Thanks! I went ahead and added the address to CSUN as well as the date we want to have the meet-up. I was wondering, if we were to make a multiple events just to see how many people are able to go to which, would that be acceptable? This doc is due at the end of March which only gives us a couple of weekends to actually have the meet-up.

      March 10, 2014

    • Heather S.

I recommend that you make a new comment on this meetup asking what days within the next couple of weekends everyone is available. Also be sure to indicate what time you want each recording to take place, so that people can be certain they can make it. Normally, multiple meetup posts for the same agenda and the same time/place aren't made until one of them is over. It prevents clutter, since there's always quite a few meetups posted all the time and people can get confused. However, since you're on such a strict time constraint, if you can get people to agree on meeting your crew on different weekend days, I think it'd be okay if you made another meetup post. Though it would be kinda pointless, since it's in the same location and the agenda is the same. Everyone here will already know where to go. If you think you can get more people by posting another meetup page, then go for it.

Hey guys! I am the Director/Producer of this doc and I will be happy to answer any of your questions. http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPLounge/comments/1z07yb/serious_post_looking_for_bronies_to_interview_for/

I have linked the original post I submitted to reddit on r/MLPLounge which inadvertently led me to this community! As the post states, we are students at CSUN who have to make a 5 minute doc and we chose to do them on Bronies!

We are currently in the works of creating our own meet-up here on campus and would like to know how many of you would be willing to be a interviewed as well.

As the post also states, we are in no way trying to tarnish your name or belittle you guys. Our main purpose is to inform the public of the MLP Community and for you guys to clear any air that is out there.

    March 9, 2014

  • Bailey K.

Well I certainly would like to give a much lighter side to the fandom through this documentary. Someone who is not a super let's jump the bandwagon for everything, nor is you must be insane for not liking mlp.

  • Samuel M.

it would be great to be apart of this project

I really don't think the whole personal hygiene disclaimer is necessary. I think I've only ever met one or two bronies in the history of ever who fit that bill.

      March 9, 2014

    • Gabe G.

I agree, the fans I've met at MLP cons do tend to have a greater concern for hygiene than other sorts of cons I've attended. Still, better safe than sorry.

Here's a little video from PBS Idea Channel that might help your documentary out a little:

It may be a shitton more work for you guys (though maybe, one of the intervewees/several can work together on it), and given the apparent consensus/concerns about further shedding the culture in a negative light, a written agreement might want to be written up/signed. Though such measures are probably a little excessive, and given that this is a school project, I, personally, am not too concerned.

The only thing I would like to personally address is anyone signing up for the interview that is under 18. I'm not exactly certain on the exact laws for California, but you might need the consent of their parents as well, if only to save yourself any trouble later.

    March 9, 2014

  • Heather S.

It'd be best if you were more specific about the doc itself and you might wanna specify that it's a school project. As you can see, bronies tend to get a little wary of being professionally interviewed, due to the bad publicity we've had in the past. :/ As long as everyone knows it's brony-to-brony, they won't mind. :) On that note, I hope I can attend this.

I would absolutely love to join in and I should be available anytime starting next weekend.

    March 8, 2014

  • RightCowLeftCoast

What if we aren't from the LA area? Can we interview via Skype or will there be a recording session down here in San Diego? We have several Marine and Sailor bronies in the San Diego area; also there's the MLP:FiM panels at Comic-Con (if you applied as press you might be able to include that in your documentary).

  • Nick H.

Editor of the BronyDoc here, chiming in to wish you good luck and godspeed =) Let me know if you need any help.
