Tournament of Roses Parade, New Years Eve party/campout

Looking to get a large group together for the 2013 Rose Parade in Pasadena. Grab some sidewalk the night before (Pasadena will allow campers on Dec 31 at Noon, no earlier - but maybe we can cheat a little) Insofar as location, I'm thinking E. Colorado and Harkness Ave (North side) so it's close to a few fast food joints, one which is purportedly open 24 hours (think- 24 hour restroom!!). We certainly can use a few free ponies, not tied up with work or school to claim some real estate the day before parade. But definitely show up when you can.

More info for the parade itself here - http://www.tournamentofroses.com/TheRoseParade.aspx

Ah, well. The last of us ended up leaving shortly after noon. We saw you wave at us, though. Yay! XD

Anyway, I am a PCC student too, so we should meet up and talk about ponies some time this coming semester.

Oh I don't go to PCC. I just marched with them. ^_^" But I am glad you saw the wave. XD I couldn't really do much more without being scolded. (:

For any late comers, we're not flying a banner (our only pony flag is now being used as a blanket.) But we're at the immediate corner at Carl's Jr. Right up front, on the blue line.

I won't be going, but for those of you that intend to camp out overnight, you had better REALLY dress warm...it's supposed to be close to freezing that night!

Literally! I'm talking 32 degrees everypony!

Yeah I think I'll drop on by early on New Years. Not sure where I'm gonna be on New Years Eve. Might be going to a party in Burbank beforehand, not sure, but I'll try to be with the group around 9 and hang with you all.

I want to go, but I will be at a party on New Years Eve that ends after midnight. Is it alright if I arrive at the meetup place later? (So I won't be camping out for most of the evening.)

I am excited. Are most of the attendees actually camping out over night? I've never camped the Rose Parade before. Should I bring a tent? Or maybe I will end up just coming for the pre-parade brony fellowship on the 31st and go home at night. I don't know.

I see. Thank you. So campers should plan on just bundling up with sleeping bags/lots of blankets in the open air on the curb, yeah?

And do you know if we will be allowed to inhabit the Carls Jr. parking lot (there's really not a lot of room on that curb)? Or will the parking lot still be open for customer parking?

      December 26, 2012

The sidewalk is fair game, and then at 11PM, we can spill out onto the street itself (not Colorado, but Harkness), which will then give us more elbow room with the rest of the crowd. My guess is that Carl's parking lot won't be fair game. Speaking of parking - I don't want to discourage anypony, but it probably won't be an easy task. Yes, it'd be nice to get a car or nine just North on Harkness to use as nearby lockers, but I'm afraid I just don't know any restrictions about parking. Heather...Are you following thread? You're from Pasadena...Can you enlighten us on any parking info? Me, personally, I'll be leaving my car in Chinatown and taking Metrorail/bus to the site, That is, if I decide not to take the train entirely from Long Beach.

I live up in Ventura county so I'll be camping out when I come, with a car full of rations and plenty of blankets. Any tips on what to bring from anyone whi has gone before?

Some rules have changed since the last time I've been to this(some ungodly number of years ago), like, they frown upon food fights (marshmallow fights in particular) and silly string. No sofas (people abandon them afterwards), tents, scaffolding. But chairs, blankets, barbecues at least one foot off the ground are okay. Here's a link to the event's FAQs http://www.tournament...

We won't be camping out, but we may stop by on the 1st.

Nearing the event, so I'd like to hear some chatter. I'll be there slightly before noon on the 31st. The more that can join early enough, will allow us to claim more viewing real estate (bring folding chairs), but come when you can, of course. If anyone has one of those battery powered mini-projectors (preferably with hdmi input) we can screen some MLP:FIM up against a wall. I'll probably have some means of powering it for you. I'll also be my own wifi hotspot, so if you want to bring a laptop or tablet feel free (I can feed 5, including myself) Speaking of feeding, I can also bring a small gas stove iffen we want to picnic versus going for fast food, let me know. Chili dogs perhaps?

Since I want to spread the word for this meetup during EQLA (and possibly make this meetup group even larger), I'll need to finalize location prior to this weekend. I think I'm leaning more towards Colorado and N Sierra Madre (northwest corner), to have more elbow room, in case this turns out to be a bigger group, plus, it's probably more parking friendly, with walking distance residential areas to the south-east (still check parking signs though) and is close enough to Gold line stations Allen as well as Sierra Madre. Insofar as restrooms go, I'm sure they'll have porta-potties along the route, and Vons will be there until they close anyways. Open to discussion but want to finalize location before Thursday.

Was thinking of handing out flyers. Good for the meetup group as well. @Heather, point taken for Colorado/Harkness, since it's closer to Allen Station. Anyone else?

      October 30, 2012

    • Leo "Sigh-Clops" M.

In order to have flyers committed for print (to pass out @EQLA), I will change location to Colorado/Harkness later tonight pending any other discussion on location. (still prefer Colorado/S. Madre personally, but yes it might be easier trek for those goldlining it from Allen Station - just under one mile walk) Still love to hear from anyone regarding location, because, if this ends up being an annual event for us, we should judiciously decide for consistency for following years to come.

I'd love to go and it is along the Metro gold line train route. Just in case of family issues I wont give an exact answer, but more then likely I will be free and will go.

I love the Rose Float Parade. I've actually decorated for the floats a few times, it's really awesome if you can mind the ridiculous amount of glue.
