Easy to moderate Mission Bay paddle at the Paddle Fest

This is a nice, easy to moderate paddle around the north half of Mission Bay starting from the beach at the SW Paddle Fest. The route may take us a bit over seven miles but we may cut this short if needed to be back before noon. You should have done at least five miles comfortably in the past but otherwise this should be an easy paced tour around the bay. We will land at at least one beach along the way to rest, eat and use the restrooms.

You should be practiced at assisted rescues just to be safe and wear a PFD.

If you haven't paddled enough to feel you can do the distance or you don't have some of the gear or rescue skills I mention then I strongly suggest you look into one of the intro classes they have planned at the paddle fest (http://aqua-adventures.com/index.php/class-descriptions.html)

Bring any water, snacks, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses or cameras you may need.

I'm limiting the number allowed safety around power boats. If we get too many interested we may be able to have two groups going different distances and routes.

Note I'm not a professional guide or instructor and you may in fact need to rescue me but hopefully we can all look out for each other.

Let's all meet at the west end of the Campland beach near the boat docks (right end lookint to the water). Be ready to paddle by 9am but we'll talk first. We have a few others joining and we will split into a short paddle group (3 to 5 miles depending on who joins) and a longer distance group that may go about eight miles. Depending on distance I expect to at least paddle around Vacation Island and the longer group may add some of the west end of Mission Bay.

It's been a while, I did not know how it would turn out so I did not RSVP. Launched from the Bahia Point, saw Will and firefighter John (sorry I did not take pics of you guys) then a bit later John C (thanks for organizing, John), Gennifer, and Ben. Brought my fastest boat, doesn't take much to get the sucker moving, my body is not feeling anything at this writing :) 8.73 miles 3h12m47s Last kayak:

Hi Fred! Sorry it's taken me long to respond. I needed to make sure I had all my work done before coming down. I hope to be down before 4pm. I'll post when I'm about to head down from Anaheim :)

I just talked to Ron Gilbert who lives in Lake Forest. Early in the morning on Saturday he will be coming to my home in San Clemente where I have two kayaks. We will load the kayaks on his car and will drive to San Diego to join the group.

Kids - I cross-posted this on SDMU. We can split up the group, if needed, so some can do the shorter outing, and most (it seems here) can go longer on the 7-8 miler. If you're already signed up on the OCMU site, please don't sign up on the SDMU. Muchas nachos ;D
