Join us as we discuss some important WP related issues with our friends at the HTML5 Los Angeles event tonight...

For tonight's main talk, SoCal Web Designer and Developer Meetup organizer, Mario Noble will focus on several of Adobe's "Edge" suite tools and share some tips and techniques on how he tests for desktop, tablets and handheld devices. With more and more WordPress sites and themes having mobile responsive design, debugging for smartphones and tablets has become an important issue for all of us.

The second part of the event will focus on WordPress from a user accessibility perspective.

Let's make the web (and WordPress sites) more accessible to everyone. Joseph O'Connor will discuss the Web Accessibility Initiative which seeks to make Web content and Web applications more accessible to people with disabilities. He will talk about the CITIES project; the goal of which is to produce accessible WordPress themes. And he will have hints and tips for all of us on how we can build accessible features into our projects.

Joseph Karr O’Connor is an accessibility consultant who lives in Santa Monica, California. When Section 508 came into effect in 1999 he began leading teams producing accessible web environments, first at Pasadena City College and then at California State University, Northridge.

Joe has been using WordPress in support of non-profits, research, and university news since 2005. Now leading Cities, a world-wide effort to build free accessible WordPress themes, Joe also contributes to Make WordPress Accessible and asks you to get involved.

A public speaker for many years Joe recently presented “Cities: Making Accessible WordPress Themes” in April 2013, at Reno-Tahoe WordCamp and about WAI-ARIA at SoCal UX Camp 2013 Cal State Fullerton in June. He also spoke about WordPress accessibility at WordCamp Montreal, June 2013.

Note this is not a Santa Monica or SoCalWP meetup event, it's being organized by our friends at HTML5 Los Angeles meetup group.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
