We will meet in the below pictured parking lot at 1:00pm and leave from there promptly at 1:15pm. Please don't be late. The purpose of meeting so late is to make sure the tide is low when we enter the Rum Runner's cave.
Travel west on I-8 until it ends. Turn left onto Sunset Cliffs Blvd. After about 500ft, slight right to stay on Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Continue on until you see the ocean and park in the first parking area on the right (if possible. There is street parking all around also), pictured below..
We will head out from this spot. In addition to hiking along and exploring the cliffs, there are a number of sea caves and also a Prohibition-era rum runner's cave. Plan on getting mildly dirty and a little damp so dress accordingly.
We will have to drop down into a hole to get into the Prohibition cave, and that's where you'll get a little dirty.
Once through the cave, we'll come down the carved steps pictured below. To the right of those steps is another passage that is permanently flooded and full of nasty, standing water. At the end of that tunnel is dry ground and it leads up under a house, where the rum runner's stashed the booze.
Also, to get into the cave pictured below, we will most likely have to walk through a muddy area. Depending on the last time the ocean washed through, it may smell a little stagnant too. If you want to see this particular cave, that's the price of admission.
I've dubbed it Black Widow Cave...so if you hate spiders...
I will answer any questions in the comments section.
