Panther Ridge Meetup - Buddy is Back

  • December 15, 2013 · 10:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

The baby serval named "Buddy" is back for a return engagement. You'll be able to photograph Buddy in an open field during this event. This is great chance to get closer than usual to one of these beautiful creatures. Buddy is a kitten, but he has his teeth and claws. As always it is important to follow all the guidelines set by the staff and volunteers of Panther Ridge.

**NO REFUNDS. Due to the number of no shows at the previous events we are forced to require a non-refundable up front payment for all participants. If you sign up and can not make it you are free to transfer your spot to another person and have them reimburse you for the cost. These fees go toward helping Panther Ridge continue their efforts to help these beautiful animals.**

We will be meeting at 10am, and the tour is limited to a maximum of 10 people. The cost is $53/pp via PayPal when you RSVP. This is a non-refundable donation. To make sure that Panther Ridge receives the full donation we had to raise the price by $3.00 to offset the PayPal fees charged. This is still a tax-deductible donation to a wonderful cause.

This event is just for the up-close encounter with the serval kitten. If you'd like to also tour the rest of the facility, there is an additional $25.00 fee payable on location, by cash, or check.

Here is a link to a map from google with directions from 441 and Lake Worth Road.

DIRECTIONS Click here for a map. There will be a sign outside saying "Panther Ridge".

PLEASE PARK OUTSIDE THE GATE: Please park on the grass outside the gate area. Although the gate will be closed, you just need to slide it open to enter the facility. Please close the gate after you enter. The address is 14755 Palm Beach Point Blvd, Wellington, FL 33414 (The entrance is actually on S. Road. If your GPS takes you down Palm Beach Point, continue to S. Rd, and then go North. It will be directly on your right.

Monopods and Tripods are permitted. Flashes can be used, unless it begins to agitate the animals.

I think you will fall in love with the[masked]L. I use that all the time at the wetlands and most often with a Kenko 1.4 extender which is compatible and provides autofocus full grid. It has a super fast focus and great for getting Buddy in full stride.

Thanks :-) I JUST got a Kenko 1.4X this week to use with my macro and look forward to trying it out. I'm hitting the Everglades Saturday morning so I should get some practice with the rented lens and the extender before hanging with Buddy :-)

I look forward to Buddy's Next Return Engagement. It was a great shoot and I would join in again if I were going to be in town. I had good success with a[masked] f/2.8 with a 2x Extender because you can get very close and he moves quickly making the zoom a desirable feature.

What is the best focal length for this event? I was planning on renting a telephoto and was wondering if a 300 prime would work or if I would need the closer end of something like a 70-300.

70-200 works well. We will be in the enclosure with buddy.

Okay, I have a rental of the Canon[masked]L on it's way for the event :-) Thanks for the advice. (I am trying to decide between the[masked]L and the 300 f/4 L for my next lens purchase ;) )

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
