Everglades Gallery, Anhinga Trail and Sunset Shoot at Pine Glades Lake

Love (and miss :)) this group and Elizabeth's tours and workshops. That's why I'm excited to invite you to my upcoming solo "Wild Florida" Exhibition opening reception at the Everglades. Look forward to sharing with you some or all of the events for this special day: Everglades Gallery Exhibit to Anhinga Trail to photographing the sunset at my favorite place, Pine Glades Lake.

Here are the details:

* Meet the Artist Reception, August 1 - 3pm, Coe Visitor Center Gallery at Everglades National Park.

* Food provided by Big Cheese of Homestead and White Lion Cafe, both of Homestead.

* Afterwards for those who want, we're going to visit the Anhinga Trail, a boardwalk/trail through the Everglades sawgrass marsh, famous for the wealth of wildlife (specifically birds and alligators) that can be seen up close and personal.

* Then at 6 pm, for sundown, we will caravan down to Pine Glades Lake, which is famous for its spectacular sunsets. Nestled along a dirt and gravel road near the Long Pine Key campgrounds in the Everglades, the lake provides for completely unique and spectacular sunsets on a daily basis.

* The road to get to the lake is difficult to find and difficult to navigate, so we will need to carpool and caravan down there from a central location. We will meet at the Royal Palm visitor's center (the parking lot for the Anhinga Trail) at 5:45 pm to arrange the caravan.

* Bring a tripod, snacks and drinks, bug repellent, your landscape kit, your telephoto kit, and a lawn chair to relax in while you enjoy and capture the spectacular evening sunset show.

* Sunset is scheduled for 8:06 pm.

* I look forward to seeing you there.

Much thanks to Elizabeth and James Keith for the following map to Pine Glades Lake:

Thank you Phoenix for a great time. We really enjoyed your work in the photo gallery and lunch was fun even though we needed to have patience while watching the rain.

We actually left a little earlier to check out several of the other locations and hoped the rain would stop.

This area is rich in natural beauty and even though the weather was not perfect - it was great! I love the clouds and lighting contrasts the weather provided. I will post some photos shortly.

Thank you again for this wonderful experience

Phoenix - Thank you for organizing this meeting. It was great seeing your wonderful work for the first time. The drive down to Flamingo was beautiful and had gorgeous views of the park and its wildlife. And finally, I got some wild cloud shots at the lake and made some new friends to boot! Thanks again and we'll see you soon.

This was a fun day! Everyone was friendly and helpful. I'm sorry the rain kept some people away, but Phoenix has some beautiful photos displayed that made the drive worth it!

Hi Everyone! After I set up the exhibit yesterday I drove up to Pine Glades Lake. Unlike the winter-dry season, the potholes on the road are pretty filled with water; although, it's drivable. I made it through fine with my Honda Accord. You just need to take is slow and watch where you're going. The area where we normally set up our tripods (and chairs) is very soggy. There are some dry places on far east side of lake. I plan on wearing hiking boots and bringing towels for drying things off after the shoot. And, definitely be prepared for mosquitos.

I have been using Avon's Skin so Soft Oil before I leave the house - it has been working well for me and it smells nice.

Hi Jon-Mark! Personally, I'm not familiar with non-chemical insect repellents. I use Off unscented with aloe. I see you had to change your plans due to a prior planned outing. Have a terrific day!

Jo, my wife, and will try to make it. We're coming from Deerfield Beach so we may be able to carpool. Are there any non-chemical suggestions for mosquito control. Does the Off shield work in the Glades?

Stacey, there is no cost for the exhibit at the Coe Visitor Center. To go into the actual Everglades National Park there is an entrancel fee of $10 per vehicle (good for 7 days). People can decide to carpool from the visitor parking lot and share the fee.
