Join us for the first in a series of workshops on Intellectual Properties and Business Law for for Entrepreneurs by the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (SoPE).


Topic: Protecting and Building Your Business with Patent, Trademark, Copyright and Trade Secret

A successful business venture often depends on the strength of its Intellectual Properties. The first workshop in this series is designed to arm entrepreneurs with a working knowledge in Intellectual Properties (“IP”) to help them protect and grow their businesses. Topics covered in this workshop will answer the following questions and more: (1) how to protect your invention; (2) what is a Patent, Trademark, Copyright and Trade Secret; (3) what kind of IP should be filed, when and where; (4) how much does it cost to file; (5) how to successfully work with the USPTO; (6) what is a license and how do royalty payments work.

This workship will be provided by Quan Nguyen of Nguyen & Tarbet. Quan is a Patent Attorney and concentrates his legal practice around patent procurement, opinion work (patentability/validity/freedom to operateanalysis), intellectual property management, as well as general counseling with particular expertise in biotechnology, chemistry, medical devices, and e-health. Prior to forming the law firm Nguyen & Tarbet, LLC, Quan was a Partner at Chandler & Udall; a Partner at a national law firm of Cozen O'Connor; and an Assistant Director of Patents at Isis Pharmaceuticals. Quan has extensive experience in developing IP portfolios to facilitate strategic venture partnerships, and to enhance companies' valuations forattracting investors and collaborators.
