Soaring Through The Pages - North Delta Book Club

This month book is: The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy by Rachel Joyce

When Queenie Hennessy discovers that Harold Fry is walking the length of England to save her, and all she has to do is wait, she is shocked. Her note had explained she was dying. How can she wait?

A new volunteer at the hospice suggests that Queenie should write again; only this time she must tell Harold everything. In confessing to secrets she has hidden for twenty years, she will find atonement for the past. As the volunteer points out, 'Even though you've done your travelling, you're starting a new journey too.'

Queenie thought her first letter would be the end of the story. She was wrong. It was the beginning.

We are a group of diverse people who love to read. We meet once a month on the third Tuesday & Wednesday. We have some great discussions, a few laughs and encourage making new friends.

Each month we read a new book, which we decide through a group poll. The poll is posted on the meetup site under the "More" tab, then just click on "polls" and vote. We have a variety of books to choose from and try to focus on uplifting books.

The cost is $6 and it includes $5 towards a pot of tea, a cup of coffee or a soda and covers the cost of rental for the location, as well $1 to cover the meetup group administration costs.

The things to consider while reading, for discussion at the next meeting can be found under this link: Things to consider

If you would like to see the books we have read, click on the "pages" tab and you will find it under " Past books we have read"

I'm wondering if anyone has a copy of the book. I am waiting for the library copy. Tammy, I said I would read it; I didn't say I would buy it. (hard back-ouch) LoL

    Hi Darlene,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Yes, Queenie does cover the emotions during the dying process. One part was hard for me to read for my mother went through a slow dying process from cancer. It does have a uplifting ending for those who have some sort of belief.
I have mixed feelings on Queenie's personality, maybe because my old folks were from there or still live there :) Stiff upper lip and repressed?

Hi all, I just joined up and am waiting for a copy of the download from the library as well. After spending months in hospice with my father who has since passed I'm curious to read the book and see if the author is able to capture the multitude of emotions which comes from death and dieing. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

I will not be at the meeting as I will be in Mexico! I really enjoyed this book as it was the parallel to the Pilgrimage, it showed the point of view from Queenie.
