Social Entrepreneur Meet Up

Greater Philadelphia Social Entrepreneur Meet up is for people who are running -- or thinking of starting -- a social enterprise, nonprofit, socially responsible business, project or organization aimed at making the world a better place.

Our next meting willl be an opportunity to
Learn, Share and Network

Wednesday, February 23

6:00pm to 6:30pm -- networking
6:30pm to 8:30pm -- meeting (see below)
8:30pm -- smaller support group (optional -- see below)

Light fare will be provided

The Philadelphia Business Journal recently named GoodCompany Ventures as one of the area’s top assets for nurturing socially responsible businesses.  Our speaker will be Garret Melby, CEO of Good Company Ventures, who will answer your questions and discuss what it takes to fund and grow a socially responsible start up.

If you have an idea, a challenge, a question related to a social enterprise, project or nonprofit you are trying to grow or start, you will have an opportunity to ask the attendees and and receive honest feedback and advice.

One of our main goals is to bring people together to foster change.   Do you need people to help you with your business, project or nonprofit?  Are you looking for a meaningful opportunity?  Attendees will have a chance to announce what type of help they are looking for -- partners, mentors, volunteers, board members, funders, etc.  This will be followed up with time to connect and discuss.

SUPPORT GROUP (optional)
For those attendees that have a project they are seriously trying to launch -- or have already launched -- we will be starting a smaller support group.  The purpose of this group is to meet on a regular basis, get to know each other’s projects, share progress, offer advice, inspiration and more.  For those who are interested in participating, the first meeting of this support group will take place after the main meeting.

We want to thank Frank Taney at Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney for generously providing space for this program.

An enlightening discussion with people from a variety of backgrounds. Sam, you did a great job in working with Frank to get that meeting space and in getting Garrett to come and present.

This was a terrific meeting. Garrett Melby's presentation was very informative and helpful, and Sam's faclitation validated all participants. There was a wide range of folks there, coming at the topic from different perspectives, but there was also a strong sense of shared commitment. Definitely a worthwhile group.

I appreciated the diversity of the kinds of enterprises represented. Mr. Melby's presentation, though very broadstroke in nature, provided an interesting frame for thinking about social capital and social venture structures.

One of the best meetups I've been to. Like-Minded people who are grounded as well as making a difference. Very refreshing.

Great idea - think part of the challenge is that participants are at such different places in the process so difficult to have it fit everyone's needs. As someone with very imited knowledge of the fnancial/funding side, the presentation had very limited application and I honestly wasnt able to really understand parts of it. I would have liked more time perhaps meeting in small groups with others with similar aeas of interest or on some other metric.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
