Let's go Kayaking at Black Hill Park

Let's go Kayaking at Black Hill Park

Black Hill has lots of Boating options. Rentals are reasonably priced @ $8/Hr (kayak, rowboat or canoe single or two person kayak is same price)

http://www.montgomeryparks.org/facilities/regional_parks/blackhill/index.shtm#Boating

Blackhill Boats Brochure has a section on Choosing Boats and also lots of information on boat renting at the park.

We usually go for about 2 hrs

Recommendation:

• Eat before arriving

• Bring water. There are few vending machines at the park, but I will suggest to consider them as back-up plan.

• There are lot restaurants nearby, but none at the park.

• We can go eat at a mutual location after.

If you have your own kayak, please note that in your response. We will meet you at the visitors center then part to meet on the water.

I took 270 South to Montrose, but couldn't find the restaurant.

My second time kayaking. AWESOME. Had lots to do with the location and even more to do with the people. What a swell group of folks.

I'm sorry I can't make it today, too much going on. Have a wonderful time, it's a gorgeous day!

We will walk down to the boats about 11:15 from the visitor's center. There are bathrooms there btw.

We will meet at the visitors center at 11am. Then go to the boat center together. Those with their own kayaks will go load and meet on the water.

Is this for fresh people? Have not done any sort of kayaking in the past.

This is fairly easy. It is in a lake.

I just called the boat house. They said they have 32 solo kayaks and 16 tandem kayaks. They also have around 14 canoes. They start renting on weekends at 6:30 a.m. The boat house person I spoke with said people show up around 10:30 on Sundays. So let's hope they have enough kayaks for all of us.

      It will be fine. :-)

Any reason why it's limited to 25?

    August 5, 2014

    • Eric

My guess is that we won't be the only ones who'll be renting. It's a public park, so other people will be there.

      August 5, 2014

    • Johanna

They have limited rentals and we are not able to reserve.

This kayak adventure is on a lake which means flat water! Very easy for beginners!

Hi all, I am new to this group and also to kayaking (just learned last weekend). Is this a leisurely kayak event? I live in DC without a car and so of course curious if anyone is willing to carpool from a metro to/from the meetup. Willing to share in travel expenses of course.

Hi Diana- I can get you from the Forest Glen metro if that works for you?

Megan - that sounds terrific! I'll email you my contact info and we can discuss logistics. Very excited to meet everyone too!

I changed my RSVP because I'm not sure that they have enough boats for 25 people and the public. So I will go another time.

I called the boat house at Black Hill after lunch today. They said you don't need reservations, just show up. Still, it'd be a good idea to get there early, esp. on Sunday when a lot of people may be out on the lake.

Should we make any reservation for a boat?

    August 2, 2014

    • Eric

I went kayaking at Black Hill last year. You just show up.

Hmm, maybe I'm wrong, according to Johanna.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
