The Social Innovation Camp Team will be making their rounds in Scotland.

We are on a mission! We’re looking for the best ideas for web-based tools that can change stuff that matters.

Over one weekend at the Saltire Centre, Glasgow we’re bringing together some of the best of the UK’s software developers and designers with those at the sharp end of social problems.

Their mission will be to turn six back-of-the-envelope ideas that could change the world into social start-ups - complete with working software. And all in under 48 hours.

Feel like taking part in June? Want to enter an idea?

Come along to our meetup to learn more.

A big thanks to the Informatics Venture for kindly hosting us for this meetup.

This month, we're going to be thinking about the economy.

But - for a change - it's not going to be all doom and gloom.

We reckon the recession could be an opportunity; it's a great time for new ideas.

Are there ways we'll need to adapt to spending less cash as jobs are lost? Will there be more Freecycling? A bigger market for OwnGrown? Or will different ways of borrowing and lending money be increasingly important? And how can we help people who've lost their jobs? What are the ways we'll be finding new careers and ways of working?

Join us for beer and some good conversation on April 22nd.

(And remember, the call for ideas for our next Social Innovation Camp weekend is open: send us your idea that uses the web to create social change and you could be joining 100 other Social Innovation Campers to try and make it a reality. Check out the details here: http://scotland.sicamp.org)

What to expect at a Social Innovation Meetup:

This month we have partnered with Bettr and given our meetup an education theme. We're interested in how we can use the web to re-organise education. Delib have kindly sponsored this meetup.

1.) Sign up

Let us know you’re coming by signing up on Meetup.com. We’re after a great mix of geeks, social innovators and entrepreneurs. When you sign up to come, please tell us if you’re a ‘geek’ or a ‘social innovators/entrepreneur’ - or just tell us what you’re good at and what you’re interested in. This helps us make the evening tick.

2.) Warm up

Doors will be open from 6.30pm for you to check out the space, grab a drink – for free - and have a chat before the evening gets going.

3.) Kick off with a Show and Tell

Things get going at 7.00pm sharp with some Show and Tell presentations. Each month we’ll be hearing from two or three people who have something interesting to share or are already working on a web-based tool to create social change and are either looking for a hand to get their idea off the ground or have some wisdom to share with others. Absolute minimal demo slides and zero-tolerance on waffle - no more than 10 minutes each and no questions from the audience – save those for later.

4.) Get talking and help out

So by 7.30pm, you’ll have heard the presenters Show and Tell. They’ll either have asked for your help, or they’ll be offering their wisdom. And then it’s your chance to have a really good chat. Go talk to the people who interested you the most.

5.) Take over

So that’s pretty much it from the organisers - have a drink, a chat and enjoy the rest of the evening.

6.) Relive it online

Doors will close up once everybody’s gone home, but we’ll be recording the evening in a variety of ways so you can relive it – should you so wish – the next day, or you can check out what you missed if you couldn’t make it.

See our website for more details.
