What to expect at a Social Innovation Meetup:
1.) Sign up
Let us know you’re coming by signing up on Meetup.com. We’re after a great mix of geeks, social innovators and entrepreneurs. When you sign up to come, please tell us if you’re a ‘geek’ or a ‘social innovators/entrepren
eur’ - or just tell us what you’re good at and what you’re interested in. This helps us make the evening tick.
2.) Warm up
Doors of the Hub Kings Cross will be open from 6.30pm for you to check out the space, grab a drink – for free - and have a chat before the evening gets going.
3.) Kick off with a Show and Tell
Things get going at 7.00pm sharp with some Show and Tell presentations. Each month we’ll be hearing from two or three people who have something interesting to share or are already working on a web-based tool to create social change and are either looking for a hand to get their idea off the ground or have some wisdom to share with others. Absolute minimal demo slides and zero-tolerance on waffle, each ‘presentation’ will be facilitated by someone from the Social Innovation Camp team.
No more than 10 minutes each and no questions from the audience – save those for later.
Find out more about the sort of projects, ideas and people we’re looking for to present at Social Innovation Meetups here. Get in touch through our website if you’d like to take part - you have to tell us beforehand if you want to present.
4.) Get talking and help out
So by 7pm, you’ll have heard the presenters Show and Tell. They’ll either have asked for your help, or they’ll be offering their wisdom. And then it’s your chance to have a really good chat. Go talk to the people who interested you the most.
5.) Take over
So that’s pretty much it from the organisers. You can keep chatting or you can go take part in an Open Session. At each Social Innovation Meetup we’ve got space for two informal Open Sessions. From 7.30pm, you can set up your own thing to present, activity to showcase – whatever.
Find out more about what to expect from an Open Session here.
If you want to run an Open Session, get in touch in advance – we can provide chairs, pens, paper etc and help make sure people know what you’re going to be up to.
6.) Relive it online
Doors will close up once everybody’s gone home, but we’ll be recording the evening in a variety of ways so you can relive it – should you so wish – the next day, or you can check out what you missed if you couldn’t make it.
