Serve Lunch to the Hungry at Our Daily Bread in Baltimore

For this event, we'll be preparing and serving a lunch to the hungry at Our Daily Bread, a soup kitchen in Baltimore. Every day, 365 days a year, they serve a hot lunch to anyone in need. The food is all donated and served by volunteers.

Our Daily Bread is more than just a soup kitchen though--it is a sanctuary from the often cold and uncaring streets. We'll assist this mission by giving both our time and a little bit of ourselves. We'll greet the guests, serve them, and make sure they feel welcome and respected. And in the process, we'll learn a little bit about our community, our fellow travelers, and ourselves.

We'll arrive at Our Daily Bread no later than 9 am, and they'll show us what we need to do and how. Then we'll help with the meal preparation, serve the meal, have lunch ourselves, and clean up. We'll be done at 1 pm. I'll send out details to all volunteers in the week before the event (where to park, how to dress, what not to bring, etc.).

We've committed to providing 12 volunteers for the four-hour shift. If you RSVP, you have to be committed to showing up. People are counting on us and we can't just casually cancel. Also, due to interest from our members, we have two dates scheduled, March 16 and March 23. For now, please RSVP to one date or the other, not both. If we still have open spots the week before the event, we'll open it up to folks who want to volunteer both days.

If you can spare a few hours for a greater cause, please RSVP and come help out! I promise it will be a very rewarding day. Thanks!

Does anyone currently signed up for the 23rd want to swap with me for the 16th?

Please let me know if someone takes you up on this so I can keep our RSVP lists up to date. Thanks!

No-one has yet taken me up on this. I have a family commitment tomorrow, so will not be able to attend, and will change my RSVP to release the spot to someone else.

Unfortunately going out of town, changed my RSVP to open a spot for someone in the wait list.

Hi Everyone, there is a race and parade in Baltimore on Sunday, both starting around 1 to 2 pm at the Washington Monument and heading down Charles Street to the harbor. If you need to go west or south when you leave Our Daily Bread, you will want to take E. Madison Street across town until you are well clear of Charles Street.

If anyone would like to carpool, we can meet at 8:30 am at the Dorsey MARC station, which is at exit 7 off Route 100, between Rt 1 and Rt 295.

Just RSVP'd to find I am on the waitlist. Surely more volunteers can't hurt? If I do make it onto the list, I can give someone a ride from DC.

Thanks. My RSVP box now says "Yes" for me, so I am assuming I have graduated from the waitlist to the front lines (correct?), and will be there on 3/16 at 9am unless I hear otherwise from you. Looking forward to this opportunity to help the less fortunate and meet others in this group.

A friend is coming in from PA this weekend. Didn't know this until yesterday. Gave up my spot so that someone on the Waitlist can take it. Sorry to miss this opportunity.

Work's been very busy lately, and I noticed the long waiting list. So I'll give up my spot for someone on the waiting list.

I had a great time volunteering for Our Daily Bread years ago, so I'm sure everyone will have a positive experience.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
