Social Ice Skating For Adults at the Royal City Skating Club

Ice skating can be fun, and the Royal City Skating Club tries to add fun moments to its Monday night program. You can skate by yourself.  Or you can find a partner and skate the "Couples" skate.  Or find two partners and skate the "Trio".  Or you can skate the "In-Line", or the "Moonlight" skate or "Bell Skate".  Or, as said earlier, just skate on your own and chat with friends.  All to music with that steady "skating beat", reminiscent of the music that rinks played long ago, selected for skaters.  At the Legion you can dance to music, at exercise class you can work out to music.  Here you can skate to music. Decades ago there were numerous clubs like this across Canada.  This is the only remaining venue of its type in Western Canada.

And what better place for such a retro skating experience than in the beautiful heritage district of Queen's Park in New Westminster, home to the Royal City Skating Club since 1938.

Skating experience is not a prerequisite.

Please bring your own skates as, regrettably the arena has no skate rental facility.  Or perhaps you can borrow skates from a friend or relative.

A place to socialize, make friends, and get some exercise.

There is a 15-minute intermission during when hot chocolate, juice and light snacks are available, plus a 50/50 draw.

Drop-ins welcome.  Cost: $8.00 per person.  Adults only.

If you forget to RSVP, or see no names on the RSVP list, come anyway.  There will be lots of friendly people there.

Wife and I both enjoyed the skating. Jim's selection of skating choices from all skate , to trios , to line , to reverse kept the evening moving at a fast pace . 1 and 1/2 hours just flew by . Great meeting and talking with all the other skaters . Would love to see more people there. Good outing for adult skaters , like having a night out without the kids .

For anyone trying to find the arena for the first time, it is best to approach from the residential side, namely 1st Street then enter through the park gate at 3rd Avenue. Arena will be on the left.

1st Street can be accessed from either 6th Avenue or Royal Avenue.
