1771 U St NW, Washington, DC
Please join me for food/jazz at Dahlaks in DC by the U St. Metro. It is a few blocks from the U St. Metro. A very casual small Eritrean/Ethiopean restaurant with a very good jazz jam session every Sunday from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. The food is very good. Eating with fingers, of course, acceptable. They have 4 full stars by Google reviews for food. The venue is small and there is no entrance cost, so as a courtesy to the owners, please order food from the menu. The restaurant is on U Street just a few blocks from the beaten path of the jazz clubs. I went here with my jazz group last year and had fun there. Please arrive as close to 6 pm as possible so that the waitress can take care of our orders. So here is how the jams work. (Probably TMI, but just so you know).
The house band for the DC Jazz Jam is made up of a rotating cast of terrific players from the DC area on piano, guitar, bass, and drums. There is a regular First Sunday, Second Sunday, Third Sunday, and Fourth Sunday house band. For the occasional Fifth Sundays, they put together an ad hoc crew. The current Dahlak House Band members are:
Piano: Howie Jung, Oren Levine, Terry Marshall, or Peter Runk
Guitar: Mark Caruso, Duff Davis, Alex Martin, Evan Samuels
Bass: Craig Falk, Ethan Foote, Ed Hrybyk, Phil Ravita
Drums: Anders Eliasson, Winston Johnson, Alan Kirschenbaum. Will Stephens
Additionally, anyone can come in and sign up to play or sing. Those that play or sing at the various jazz spots up U Street are known to sometimes stop in. Also, in addition to the regular house band members, they bring in a special guest “Monthly Master” jazz artist every few weeks to join the house band for the evening. There is a list of these Monthly Masters on jazzjam.com.
I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
