White Water Rafting on the Penobscot River $79

Hi Social Fun,  it's time to start thinking "Summer" so let's head out and do some white water rafting on the Penobscot River. We will be there June 21-23 (June 21st is the first day of Summer!) and will be rafting on Saturday, June 22.

Call Northern Outdoors at (800)[masked] and tell them you want to reserve for June 22nd.  Be sure to mention that you'd like to raft and lodge with the Trailblazers group.

For Lodging call the same number to reserve a campsite, cabin/text, or bunkhouse at Penobscot Outdoor Center.  Campsites are $13 per person, per night, plus tax.  Cabin/tents are $23 pp/pn for 2 to 4 people.  Bunk houses are $25 pp/pn for 4 or 5 people.  Here's a link to the Penobscot Outdoor Center where you can see the lodging and other amenities like the restaurant, bar, and giant hot tub.  http://www.northernoutdoors.com/site/resort/penobscot-outdoor-center.html

Sat morning we will paddle Class IV & V action in the granite-walled Ripogenus Gorge of the Upper Penobscot River we will paddle through a series of steep drops followed by pools on the Lower Penobscot section. We will have lunch at noon (provided by the rafting company) and continue with rafting the rest of the day!

You can rent wet suit there if you need one.

Bring your underwater camera if you have one!

After the rafting trip we can head to the pavilion where the campsites/cabin tents/bunkhouses are.  They have a grill restaurant/bar, beer & wine only, indoor hot tub IN the bar (seriously).  And maybe an evening around a campfire.

More information will be coming out as the date gets closer by.
Let me know if you can carpool or if you need a ride.

Members of the Trailblazers Meetup group will also be there!
Looking forward to do some White Water Rafting! Think Summer!!!!!

See you there!

Peter

The pub, which is located near the lodging at the Penobscot Outdoor Center, is only open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and they now require reservations. Imwould suggest meeting at the pub beginning at or before 7 p.m. as people arrive. The hot tub is open! They tell me that the river is running high.

Hi all, I do so wish I could be on this rafting trip but cannot due to a serious injury. But I know you will have fun--I have rafted on this river before. Some thoughts and suggestions:
The cabin/tents and bunkhouses have wooden bunks with cot mattresses. You will need to bring a pillow and a sleeping bag or sheets/blankets--it can be cold in Maine at night in summer. Also bring a flashlight and cell batteries or car charger. I do not know if there are charging stations.
Bugspray!!!! The mosquitos in Maine can be very big--lol.
Have clothes or a bathing suit to wear under your wetsuit. I highly recommend renting a wetsuit-the water is cold.
Bring watershoes or get booties with wet suit.

You will be given and required to wear a helmet and very buoyant life vest. You do NOT need to be able to swim.

NOTE: The front desk is open to check in until 10 pm Friday. If you arrive after that, there is a board nearby listing all cabins by reservation name and the key will be with each. However,II do recommend leaving home early enough to arrive before dark. Please GPS this ride from your home as it could be a 4 to 6+ hour drive depending on traffic.

    Dear Rafting Guest:

We have some last minute openings for our Saturday trip, June 22nd .
We wanted to offer you the first option of adding on if there were additional people in your group who wanted to raft after the trip had sold out.
Please call our office at [masked] if you want to add on additional rafters to your trip; we will need full payment at the time you add them (sorry, but we are unable to hold these few available spots without a full nonrefundable payment).

Hopefully these openings can help you grow your rafting group; the more the merrier!!!

Teresa, if you would rather be in a cabin/tent with 3 women than in a tent, let me know. It is possible there may be one open bunk with some friends of mine.

I have a $39 ticket for this rafting trip, but will be unable to make it. The first person who contacts me can have it. Honor system--I'l ask you to mail me a check since there is so little time remaining.

Teresa, if you're talking about my rafting reservation, Sri got back to me first and will get it.

They did not mention 14 day deadline on phone or $25 fee when I talked to them last week. I'll call tomorrow and see what they have to say. It's possible they were willing to waive it because I broke my back, plus I helped bring them a lot of business.

Since I will be unable to attend due to a serious injury, please contact Peter if you have any questions.

So your saying you are not going stay with the group at the cabin site right? But you are going rafting with us?

    June 12, 2013

  • Beth

Hi, I am not sure how to contact this. I have reserved spots in my own cabin for myself and my two daughters. So, I was not going to end up going with the group but will be up there on the same day. How do you want me to handle this. We still have reservations for the rafting and want to keep it. Should I change the rsvp

  • Sri C.

Hey everybody! If anyone has changed plans and need to cancel, please inform me. I would love to join the group, guess its too late now. mobile #[masked]

Hi, the last I heard was that the trip was "sold out" and the only way to go would be if someone else who has a paid reservation wanted to cancel out and transfer their reservation to you.
    Hope this helps.

Could those of you who have RSVP'd Yes, let us know if you've made your reservations for the Rafting trip yet and for lodging? The 4-person Cabin/tents are all spoken for but there are still 2-person cabin/tents, bunkhouses, and campsites available. If you haven't made reservations but want to join us, you're still welcome. Please call Northern Outdoors, make your rafting and lodging reservations, and update your RSVP to let us know.

If you do NOT plan to come, please change your RSVP to NO. Thank you!

Please be sure to make your rafting and camping reservations as soon as possible and note here when you've made them. If you decide not to go, please change your RSVP, so we know how many are coming and can later coordinate carpooling.

Sorry I RSVP d by mistake. It's not that I wouldn't like to do it but I have not done it before and sounds a bit scary!

    March 9, 2013

    • Mithun C.
