Let's Meetup for Ages 40 Plus @ the Beat Hotel

"Repeat the Beat!"

Do not be turned away by the numbers, Social Fun has a forty percent turnout ratio so even if a hundred people sign up you will get forty actual people. No worries. Perfect event.

It's time for another Happy Hour and this time we're back in Cambridge!

Beat Hotel has a really cool vibe and good live back round music (that usually isn't too loud!). Not too swanky. It's only a couple of minutes walk from Harvard Square T station, below street level just beyond the Coop clothing store.

Hosts will aim to be there before 5:45, but this is a rolling come and go as you can event. Some folks come just for a drink, others hang out and chat for a few hours. There's good food here too. but no pressure to order food.

This event typically winds up around 8pm, although some members organize and grab some dinner after or go somewhere else in Harvard Square until late.

YEAH!
Look forward to seeing you again!

I have removed and band Gina from the Social Fun group since I got many complaints from Members that attended the Let's Meetup for Ages 40 Plus @ the Beat Hotel. The comments Gina posted were offensive and not to the guidelines of the group. Also, I cannot allow this kind of behavior to continue. My members were asking for action now and I took it. Please always let me know when these issue come up and I’ll deal with it quickly. I have zero tolerance for rude behavior. Thanks

Thanks for your feedback. I can delete comments, but I prefer not to. I want to make sure other members can see all of Gina’s negative comments and the fact that members did not like what Gina was saying and to justify the fact that we had to remove and ban Gina from Social Fun. This is a good example that rudeness to other members will not be tolerated in this group. I hope you can understand this decision. Again thanks for your feedback

Biagio I do understand. I guess I was hoping that any new comers would only see the pleasantries that the group was offering. The rest of us already experienced the negativity as well as the swift and just response to how bad behavior/attitudes are dealt with. Thank you for replying. Have a great one!

Disclaimer: I cannot guarantee a perfect 50/50 ratio of men to woman, nor can I guarantee everyone is single, wealthy & attractive.

I haven't made one of these events yet, primarily because I would prefer to be outside at this time of year - Is it the intent of the organizers to run this event year-round?

There is a lot of demand so we'll post this often. At three different rotating locations.

Are we done yet?? The woman said something that was offensive and out of line...obviously. It is a reflection on her. But when I get tons of emails berating her, it is annoying and immature. Don't we all have more productive ways to spend our time? At this stage of our adult lives, hopefully we all have developed skills to ignore annoying/ignorant comments or people and not feed into it or foster negativity. Can we wrap this thing up??

Mary Ellen, you can opt out of emails for this group by going into your profile & modifying the settling. It is a great tool that will stop excessive annoying email notifications every time someone posts a comment on here.

Thanks to the organizers of this 40+ series. This meetup is a great way to catch up with meetup friends from multiple groups & kick off the weekend.

DONT KNOCK UNTIL YOU TRY!!..I have met many outstanding peeps on meetup who are interesting, funny, supportive, encouaging, great networkers, sources of information, great dancing partners, life coaches, connaisseurs of art, beer & wine, passionate about live music, kinder to me than the general bar crowd/coworkers, and intelligent professionals which is what makes them attractive to me! Thanks for coming everyone for good times. We are all looking for different things & realistic expectation will get you further!! My southern Belle Mom always say, "You can catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar."

    Hi Gina,
It is too bad you didn't make it to the meet-up. I had a great time talking to both women and men. I don't understand why you are criticizing the men when you were not there. I thought a lot of them were cool, a lot of the women, too. Perhaps you might enjoy talking to the folks there instead of judging them when being absent. Just a suggestion. As you can see from all the other comments, everyone else had fun. But if you want to be judgmental and disappointed in the appearances of men whom you haven't even met, that is not fun, so it is probably best that you miss these then.

I was going to respond to Gina's comment, but there are no words and it doesn't deserve any more of our time..About the Meetup at The Beat..I will share these observations with the intent to improve future Meetups, not to criticize in any way..I have been to other Meetups with various groups, and the host almost always greets members as they arrive. We looked for Duncan, the event host, to introduce ourselves and say hello, and we didn't find him. I heard others ask, "Which one is the host?" Perhaps this was due to the flexible arrival time. It was also a bit awkward weaving through that cramped space, and confusing trying to figure out who was with the group and who was not. I didn't realize that Lauren was one of the organizers until looking at this site after the event, but she did come over to say hello and chat a little bit..Thank you Lauren.

Gina your comment should offend all men that attended except for 4 or less if you are right... I could not believe you put that statement out on a meetup post.

Looks like this will be ongoing way past 8 PM! Heads up, people!

      July 11, 2014

  • Barry

To my embarrassment I just read the post more carefully and I see it winds up around 8 o'clock.

    July 11, 2014

    • duncan

Doesn't have to wind up at eight, a lot of people may probably want to stay later. Ask at reception-- they'll point you in the right direction. The right direction would be the back corner on the right next to the stage (speakers will be in a different direction).

I may not be able to get there until 7 or 730. How late will this go?
