Day Trip to the Vineyard

Around this weekend?  Looking for something fun to do?  We had so much fun on our trip to Nantucket earlier this summer that we decided we would do the same for the Vineyard.

Beach day/trip to Martha's Vineyard! A day trip to the Vineyard is perfectly doable and a lot of fun. We will meet at the ferry early in the morning - however everyone is on their own and welcome to take a later ferry and meet the group. When arriving we will explore the area...options include: renting bikes and going to the beach, shopping, sight-seeing, eating, drinking, walking around, eating, drinking, relaxing, etc :)  A group dinner will be planned close to the ferry before heading back to Falmouth so we can all get together!

A round trip ticket on the ferry is $16. Bikes are an additional $8.  You will not be able to buy tickets online in advance.  You must buy them at the ferry terminal.

Ferry schedules departing Falmouth:

- 9:30 AM ferry arrives in Oak Bluffs at 10:15 AM

- 10:45 AM ferry arrives in Vineyard Haven at 11:30 AM

Martha's Vineyard Shuttle schedules:

There are numerous shuttle buses that service the island of Martha's Vineyard.  There is a bus that runs every 15 minutes from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM from Oak Bluffs to Vineyard Haven.  The trip time is 15 minutes one way. Cost is $1.00 for each trip, or $7.00 for a one day pass.  So, if you arrive in Oak Bluffs on the 9:30 AM ferry, it would only take 15 minutes to get to Vineyard Haven.  There are bike paths that traverse the entire island as well.

Peter Pan Bus Line website (if taking the bus from Boston to Falmouth):

http://www.peterpanbus.com/

For people taking the bus to Falmouth, you will need to take the 7:30 AM bus departing Boston in order to make the 9:30 ferry.  The latest you can leave the Vineyard to catch a bus back to Boston would be 6:15 PM.  Please plan your days activities accordingly.

This is going to be a very relaxed, "play it by ear" day with a group dinner planned.  It's up to you what you do with your day! :)

For those of us taking the 9:30 shuttle we will meet at the ferry terminal at 9:00. If you want to take an earlier ferry you will need to contact the organizers to make arrangements to meet the group.

Everyone is free to do what they would like but the organized agenda will include biking, lunch, Lighthouse Beach, and dinner  More details to follow so don't forget to check your email.

Please update your reservation to add if you are planning on biking or having dinner with the group so we can all get a better understanding of what people want to do.

Carpooling groups are encouraged!

I just checked the steamship authority schedule June 20 to Sept 5 and it looks like the 930 ferry from Woods Hole arrives in Oak Bluffs. The 1045 arrives in Vineyard Haven• Did anyone else read it that way?

If for some reason you can not make it tomorrow, please update your RSVP as soon as you make your decision. Or, you can simply send me a text message if internet access is not available. When I co-hosted the Nantucket trip last month, there were 30 No shows who Never changed their RSVP's. So I spent 3 hours looking for people that were not coming. Thanks!

For those of you bringing extra gear / clothes with you, there are lockers that you can rent at the Steamship Authority ferry terminal in Vineyard Haven. This way, you will not need to carry extra belongings with you, and you could return during the day to drop / pick up things.

If you are biringing your own bike, there is an extra charge for the ferry ride.

I will probably take the 10:30 Island Queen from Falmouth that goes to Oak Bluffs. The MV town bus is $2 to Edgartown and $3 to Vineyard Haven I think. I will need contact info to meet up with you guys.

I may like to join in on this - is everyone taking the 9:30 ferry and have details on how to find the group been sent out? I don't know anyone on the YES list so would like to be able to find someone if I go!

Hi Sandy, I am leaving from Norwood and would be happy to carpool if you want. I can drive as I know the way and the different ferry services in Falmouth and Woods Hole. The one from Woods Hole goes to Vineyard Haven. The only thing is that I need to take the next ferry and want to meet up with the group after. I don't have anyone elses contact info but mine is 781- 888-7017. Diana

Hi Diana, We will not determine lunch or dinner plans until we get on the island. Gary and I will send out our contact info later. If you can touch base via text message tomorrow, that would be good. Thanks.

For those who need a ride try taking Peter Pan Bus it doesn't take that long and it's only about $25 each way.http://www.peterpanbus.com/
