Special Podcast Alert: Will Harbin Speaks Out!!

AJ A.

Late last week, Will Harbin, CEO of Kixeye, released an open letter that denounced Kabam's new game Edgeworld as an unabashed clone of Backyard Monsters. The press was quick to jump on the smack talk angle, but we got to chat with Harbin and he thinks the main point got a bit lost.

You'll need to check out the podcast to get the full view of his perspective, but here's a teaser. Harbin says his ultimate point was that as a game developer trying to pave new ground on a new platform and convince others of its potential, unimaginative clones weaken the argument. He believes there's a lot of unexplored territory in social and places some of that blame on inauthentic designers, saying:

"I want game developers to act like game developers. Instead what we have is a lot of performance marketing firms that disguise themselves as game developers and I'm calling that out."
