Socrates Cafe Louisville Meetup

A Socrates Cafe is simply people getting together to ask philosophical questions with the purpose of (maybe) getting a better understanding of the topic, philosophical inquiry, and realizing our own preconceptions. The discussion begins by people proposing questions to discuss; we vote on which question to use and then simply talk about it. Some possible questions include:

Interesting column in my hometown paper:

"But outside of the most-rabid conspiracy circles, it’s fair to say “we know much more” thanks to a half-century of news and information brought to us unfettered by government censorship." from a column by Gene Policinski

Of course we do have government censorship, but why would
    Policinski deny it?

ok, I know that we intend to continue the book discussion, but I have done a little bit of thinking about conversation topics whether they be for soon or future use. Maybe they've been done before, if so , then sorry to be beating a dead horse, but if not then it could be fun.

i think that we are getting burnt out with the book so perhaps people will be willing to get into one of these topics. I look forward to the meeting tomorrow!

    1. Why might the movement to get rid of guns lead to the restriction of selling fertilizer?

    2. Ethically, does any government entity have the right to tell you what you can or cannot put into your own body? (yes, this topic is aimed at the discussion of drugs, specifically marijuana and the history behind its illegalization and future potential uses and regulation vs. prohibition.)

    3. Why is it so very important to know yourself first....above all others? (this is a very philosophical topic and as such is heavily open to interpretation.)

Just throwing these out there...let me know if anyone wants to take a stab at them and I will look forward to seeing all of you Monday at 7pm.
