New Approach to Socrates Cafe

Just a short note to let folks know that we're trying something a bit different on Monday evenings.

Instead of voting for topics and discussing them, we're relying on a "survey" type philosophy book. The book is full of short articles and selections from renowned philosophers (3 to 7 pages, each). Articles are categorized along common themes; over the course of a few weeks we'll have gotten several different points of view and can talk about what these people have to say and how they're doing philosophy. I've got multiple copies of the book to share with the group and we'll read the article during the meeting so there's no threat of "homework".

The reason for the change is that we simply might have gone as far as we can go in the traditional format. The group is very successful as we typically have between 15 and 20 (remarkably smart) people show up every week who have discussed and debated their ideas and beliefs with one another for some time. We just need to get a little farther from shore and explore some deeper water.

If it's been a while since you've attended or if you haven't managed to make it to a meeting yet, now is a good time to correct that behavior!
